okay so first off i just want to let everyone know i wasnt looking to lose weight at all because when i was diagnosed with pcos i was 5'8 and 120 pounds. the major problem i have is pcos acne. i did a lot of research to find a natural way to help get rid of pcos acne and i found that eating a low carb diet would work. it worked in the beginning for 6 months and then it stopped working. i started eating less and less because i thought everything i was eating was causing my acne. now i barely eat anything and i feel as if im starving myself when i really dont want too. i lost about 10 pounds that i didnt need to lose and i just dont know what to do. i dont know if i should just go back to eating normal food or if that will make my acne even worse or if i should just continue eating strictly vegetables and lean meats which is all i eat now. can someone please help me and share the diet they eat to get rid of their acne?
ok, i think eating less is not the solution, balancing you hormone levels and insulin levels is, and it is impossible to balance without a good pcos friendly diet
protein with each meal, 3 big meals a day and no snacking unless you really need to. It's hard to start with, but gets ok in a week or two.
Meals for example -
eggs on a piece of toast with butter for breakfast
fish/chicken salad with green veg and a little brown rice for lunch with a yoghurt and fruit for pudding plus a little chocolate (like 3 squares) and some diet coke or some other low calorie drink.
dinner of meat or fish with some green leafy veg, rice, quinoa, couscous or lentils or something, maybe some bread or some wine, a little fruit or a small pudding (share?) or cheese and crackers.
Basically eat normal food, but base each meal around a piece of pure protein - meat, fish, egg, cheese and add green veg which is low carb. Have 2 pieces of fruit a day, try nor to have more. Have 7 to 9 portions of veg instead of extra fruit. Have a few nuts or yoghurt if you need a snack, or cheese.
Protein on its own is ok, carbs or fruit on its own not ok.
Just protein in your diet with very few carbs is not ok - you will lack nutrients which will mess up your levels and skin.
So good protein, good slow release carbs, lots of veggies, planty of fun stuff WITH each meal so you are happy. Eat plenty 3 times a day.
It's simple but hard i find ... when i do it I look and feel great.
Plus, dunno if it will work for you, but I have started using estee lauder's very expensive cream called advanced night repair concentrate every night and it has worked wonders. See if your local counter can give you a trial size ...

thats a good idea ill try to eat some protein with every meal. i just get so paranoid about what i eat because i feel like i instantly break out after eating certain food. i stopped eating cheese, eggs and nuts because i thought they were making me break out.
Everyone is obviously different, but I find that eating deep fried foods will make me break out with loads of little pimples around my chin and mouth and I really believe that too much dairy doesn't help my acne either. So I almost never eat deep fried food and I limit the dairy. Still, I have acne issues so (sigh)... I guess we all have to come up with individual plans for acne control.
I can say, since I've been on the MET, I've had waaaaay less (almost non existent) cystic acne. My acne now is mostly tiny little pimples on my cheeks and t-zone. So less painful at least.

yeah im going to my endo next week and i was going to ask her to put me on metaformin. do you think she will give it to me even though i'm not looking to lose weight? because i know people mainly use it for that. and what kind of diet do you eat while taking met?
In addition to protein, you need to eat some healthy fats, too. Nuts, avocado, and olive oil will nourish your skin, and your whole body.

For me, I'm IR with irregular AF, so the MET helps with that, that was my reason for going on it. My Endo didn't recommend that I lose weight as I am in the healthy range, it's just something personal for me, I'd like to lose some weight.
I haven't lost any weight on MET, although I do not get crazy uncontrollable sugar cravings anymore and I'm less irritable and not so fatigued all the time.
I'm on a GI type regime, limited dairy and limited carbs (the bad ones - white rice, white bread), while taking MET. I eat as many low GI veges as possible and eat fruit too. I use olive oil for most cooking and always have it on salads.
Good luck with your doctor and let us know how it goes1

Metformin is NOT a weight loss drug. That is not what is is Rx'd for.
Re: PCOS Acne and diet...from the top of this forum.
i actually dont think its due to excess androgens because i got blood work done and my testosterone is normal. do you think metaformin or spiro will help?
