Smile My Doctor

I am so thankful for finding my doctor. Like many of you here I have known for years that "something was wrong". For me it started with small weight gain, I was at 120 and every few months I would go up 5 pounds, I never understood it because I didn't really like sweets and I was very active. Each time I would see a doctor and tell him/her something was wrong, I would be given one of those 1, 500 calorie diets (that was full of carbs) when I would return few months later and say OMG I gain weight on this. I would get a look that said "sure like you were on it". I gave up on diets and doctors.

And all of the sudden things went from bad to worst, I gained 120 pounds ! My periods stopped. I lived with DH who was just my BF at that time, I had NO insurance, NO job. I knew I needed help but I was so scared. I fear the worst ..... cancer. (it runs in the family). Finally I went to see my OBGYN, for the first time in my life someone paid attention. Did not judge me. And believed me. He suspected right away that I had PCOS, and sent me for the tests. They were going to cost over $800 and he helped me arrange that the hospital paid for it. I only had to pay for lab work sent out of state. One week later in August 2001, I was DX'ed with PCOS.

I am so thankful and grateful for finding a doctor that looked at me as a person not a file on his desk. I am now seeing a RE because my doctor is limited in what he can do. But once I get pregnant I will be back in his care.
