My doctor won't up my met!

I have been on Met since 3/1 500 mgs. I went to see my gyn for a follow up and I told him that a bunch of soul cysters were on 1000 and up, that if he could change it. He said yes after I did a fasting insulin level and only until then. He also said that he has never put a patient over 1000 mg. dosage.

So he will give me the 1000 mg and that's it. I have not AF on my own for 9 years - I always need provera. I want to AF on my own! Also he wants to do ovary drilling what the heck is that.... Does anyone know? Has anyone had it done?...Did it work?... Appreciate if anyone can help me.

Your doc is half right. Met shouldn't be upped until you get the fasting insulin test. You are right - many of us are over 1000 mg - I am at 1500 mg myself. You should also insist they check thryoid and anything else that could affect AF. My PCOS dx came after many other symptoms were treated, and still infrequent AF. I am hypothyroid, and have a pituitary tumor, each of which on their own can mess with AF.

Great job on the weight loss. I started at 228#, am down to 204# myself, and feel better already. Many to go, but I am happy with the results so far.

As you can see I am on 1700mgs. I think the dosage partly has to do with weight. I am very overweight for my height. I evolved into 1700mg over a course of 2 months. Maybe your dr. wants to do that, also.

I have also read that some doctors don't even consider 500mg a long term therapeutic level. BTW, my insulin test was good, and on 1700mg I finally "o" (not strong enough but hey!), have lost 13lbs, and feel great!!

Some doctors want to take it very slow when upping the dosage on met. Mine also insisted on additional testing prior to increasing my dosages.

I have been on Gluc XR for one year now. I started it in March of 2002. It took a couple of months but then I started having regular periods, one every 28 days. The first time in my life.

So I suggest you be patient and give it some time. I was on 500mg for several months before increasing. Even at that level I noticed changes in myself. I stopped craving carbs and lost 10 pounds just from starting the gluc, but those cravings came back and that is why I eventually started the Atkins Diet.

hello

I was put on 1000mg of met to start with at the begining of feb. and at the begining of march i was put on 2000mg a day. ive lost 15lbs so far with met and low carb diet but my periods are still irregular.

Thanks for all your input cysters, I am going to take the fasting exam next week for now I will still stay on 500 mg. Please if anyone knows anything about ovary drilling please let me know!

My friend had ovarian drilling done twice. The first time she got pg with her twins, and she is ttc again now.
I would say she is a success story!!
