my beagle, Alex, my best friend...the 'puppy' that sat beside me when i cried, those quiet moments in the dark when i sat alone and everybody was going on with their lives. Sometimes i used to think my girls were looking at me through her eyes, her big brown eyes staring up at me while she curled around my feet as i sat there and cried uncontrolably over losing my babies. I was never alone when she was around...i miss her so much...
She just died, one minute i was taking her for granted, now she's gone. Her picture sits beside the one of my babies...i hope they all play together now.

Kim, I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss! ((((HUGS)))) Do they know what happened to her? I lost my cat of 17 years in October of this year (he had thyroid disease and kidney failure, and I had to put him down), so I truly understand the pain you're going through. My Nick was the same for me as your Alex was for you...he was always there for me through the tough times of life. I hope your memories of Alex can bring you some comfort...hang in there, it does get better. It doesn't ever stop hurting, but it does get a little easier.

Thanks ladies, i appreciate your support especially since this isnt exactly a loss of pet thread...i just couldnt imagine you not understanding. I'm not really sure what happened, we just got back from a week long trip visiting the outlaws, we travelled across 3 provinces plus a three hour ferry boat cruise...so i dont know if it was just too much for her, or if she possibly injested something while in the van during the ferry ride-we were missing a few lobsters that we bought from dhs cousin but he thinks he got jipped and not that the dog ate them, and maybe it was just natural causes. She just faded so fast especially when we got home, everything was closed and her vet wasnt available, so i drove home the next day from doing errands and dh called me and said she was fading fast-i was prepared to rush home and get her to the emergency vet but there was no use. MAn...i bawled. i just petted her and rubbed her ears...we all said goodbyes and she passed about an hour later. I just dont know what happened she just really was my companion during hard times...the times i cried into her fur and she'd lick my tears...i cant believe shes gone

I am so sorry for your loss. I had a very difficult time when my cat who had comforted me during/after my losses didn't adjust to babies in the house after we adopted and we had to find her a new home.

I'm so sorry...I had to put Oliver down (also a beagle "variety") in February '05. He was going on 14 and very sick. He got me through the hard times when I lost Anna...and was also a tear licker. It was devastating...like losing another baby in some ways...I wish he was here now to comfort me through this loss...
I imagine my babies are playing with him now in heaven...getting doggie kisses...slobbered on...and being the best little friend to them like he was to me here on Earth...
(((BIG HUGS)))

Kim, I feel awful for you. Sometimes we do attach part of our grief experience to a place, thing, or other being, and when that is no longer part of our normal life, it feels like we have to say goodbye all over again. I experienced this a couple of times, and it's dreadful, but I wasn't saying goodbye to a precious doggie! What a shame to lose such a faithful friend! I am so very sorry!

I'm so sorry. I'm dealing (and have been for months) with the heartbreak of losing beloved kitties. Pets are so much a part of the family. It's horrendous to lose them, esp. when they have connections to other things in our lives, like how you associated her with your girls. I am so terribly sorry about this loss.
I am so sorry about the loss of your dog. I have been dealing with the loss of both my puppies since 2005 (they got out of our fenced in yard & were both hit by same car.) It is a very hard & tragic thing to go through. Someone suggested to me writing a letter to them, which I did & was very helpful. Anyhow, I am very sorry for you.
