Question Is My Dosage Right?

I am 5'11'' and 265 lbs. I was put on Yaz and 1500mg of Met about 6 weeks ago. With Met, I started off with 500mg for a week, then 1000 mg for another week, lastly the full 1500 mg. I had no problem going to the full dosage.

I feel a slight difference in my appetite, I think. Not enough to lose weight. I still have headaches but they are less frequent. I was not on BC before Yaz, my husband has had a vasectomy. I am not trying to get pregnant. Maybe the BC has helped my headaches and I cramp less often.

Should I be on a stronger dose of Met? I am a big girl. How should I feel on the right dose?

Thanks in advance!!

My RE had put me on 3000mg right from the beginning. I was 5'7" 225lbs. He said he wanted to be agressive with me. My doctor before said I should start on 1500mg. At that time (3 years ago), I had read a lot of posts from people saying they were on a higher dose. When i asked that first doctor if I could take a higher dose, he told me that 1500mg was what he felt comfortable perscribing but if I wanted to increase the dose I was free to do so up to a max of 2500mg.

I don't think your doctor would have much of a problem putting up your dose if you ask him. My RE had told me that sometimes 1500mg doesn't work, which is why he wanted me to start off high.

I am sure you could take more if you wanted to but it is probably best to ask your doctor how he/she feels about it.

Everyone is differant and your dr may simply have started you where he/she did and wants to see how you react and then up you if needed. I was started on 500mg after 3 months I had a check up and was upped to 1000mg I really do feel that in June she'll up me again to 1500mg at least I'm hoping cause I don't quite feel like I'm on enough yet...but she doesn't want to be to aggresive as this isn't something she normally prescribes... it to me 8 years to get her to put me on it after I had to stop seeing the specialist who had me on it(lost my insurance couldn't afford him)

Thank you both for your input. It is greatly appreciated!

I am still wondering if my dosage should be higher. I will talk to my Dr about it but I thought I would hear from those who would KNOW (my Soulcysters!) how they feel on the correct dosage for themselves.

If anyone has additional input, please speak up. I am sure there are other women out there wondering like me.

My doc just put me on 1000mg of Met yesterday, and I had a little diarrhea, but for the most part I'm just really excited! I'm 5'5" and 230 lbs, and I don't know if that will be enough either. but i go for an update in 4 weeks, so only time will tell I guess.

Good question. From what I gathered on this website, you have to be super proactive with your doctor about upping your dosage. And don't be surprised if he/she is hesitant to do so. However, I was adamant about upping my dosage after reading about 2000mg being the min. effective dose for PCOS'ers elsewhere on this forum. Just make sure you give your body time to get used to it, or else you'll be quite overcome with side effects.

I'm at 2000 right now and I am really enjoying the fact that I feel full quicker than ever before. I especially noticed positive changes with how my body responds to carbs--I don't feel like such a sugar/carb addict and can truly control how much/how little I eat.
