Default Is my dosage of Spiro to low?

I was so excited that my doc finally prescribed Spiro, but she only prescribed 50mg per day. I have been reading other posts and the lowest I have seen is 100mg and the majority I see are 200mg! Is 50mg to low of a dose?

Hi

Dunno, I've always been on 100. Maybe your dr will increase your amount next visit?? Or maybe that's the best amount for you.

Taylor I was on 100 at first and just recently upped it to 200 after a year-ish. They might be starting you at the low dose so they can do liver tests to make sure that the spiro isnt messing with your liver functions.. did you ask the doc?

I am on 100mg of Spiro. I started out at 50mg.

For those of you on 100mg - do you take the whole 100mg at once (in one dose)? Or do you split it up?

Question

I started on 50mg of Spiro and it was increased after 3 months and a blood test to make sure that my potassium was ok.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I have a query that relates to the original one....Maybe the original poster is like me and doesn't know what to expect.

I'm now on 100mg a day and can't say I notice any change. Could someone please give me an idea of what I should expect while I'm on Spiro - what changes should happen?
I see that someone here said that 50mg a day 'worked' for them. What do you mean 'worked'?
My facial hair situation has recently improved drastically, but thats because I have been getting laser light therapy on my face, my bodily hair is still as bad, my weight is still a major problem, I still have all the rest of the symptoms that I had and I haven't had a natural period since I started it (although I have had 2 occasions when there was a brown discharge, but it only appeared once each time after I went to the loo )

sorry for the hijack ladies, I hope you don't mind answering this Spiro related question - sometimes you get too many threads on the same subject and thats not helpful to anyone!

Thats a good question georgy. I'm not really sure what to expect from taking Spiro either. I was complaining to my doc about the hair loss and facial hair so this is what she prescribed. From reading other posts I guess its supposed to help those issues. I was also wondering if its ok to take met and spiro at the same time? I am currently taking both.

I take both met and spiro at the same time and my doc thinks it safe, so I trust her with this. What it helped me with is the hair growth on my face and some other lesser issues on my body. My face hair has definately slowed down, the hair is less corse and my skin is significantly less sensitive to the hair growth. My face also cleared up almost completely from the cystic acne.

I also had some dark peach fuzz type hair growing on my chest and my tummy, they are all but gone on spiro. I didnt have to use laser or anything, it just dissapeared. Now I still have some blond ones on my tummy but those dont bother me, it was the dark ones that I had the biggest problem with there. The chest hairs, I still get a few now and again, and honestly Im just so in the habit of shaving it off that I still do that sometimes when I feel the fuzz is longer.

Sprio seems to be a crap shoot for us cysters, some people it helps and some people see no change. Some people seem to have some pretty bad side effects from it. I say if your doc is willing to try, I would feel safe enough to try it.

Oh btw.. it took me a few months to see an appreciable difference in my hair situation, maybe 3. But when I tried a little experiement on coming off of it, to see how it effected my libido (my only real complaint about the drug), the hair growth problems and especially the acne came back to me pretty fast, less than two weeks.

Good luck!

well, my libido has been shot for the last 3 years pretty much! I suddenly disappeared when I went on Metformin and put on more weight, and never came back - so its a case of working myself up to the event by willing myself to want sex!! Spiro has had no side-effects at all for me, I had a terrible time on Met - depression, no libido, feeling of sickness, lethargy - MAJOR lethargy! the list goes on.

I think I'll stick with the Spiro and wait and see....the recommendations are pretty good.

hmmm I started Spiro on about August 27. The only change so far that I've seen is the need to pee a lot more, and it's totally messed up my period. I started on like the first of september, then started about 2 weeks later, and then another 2 weeks after that. The first period was still normal and the last one was fairly normal, but the one in the middle was more spotting and totally a different color than what it usually is. I finally got my birth control (ovcon 35) which I'm starting tonight. Other than that, no change yet...but I've read that it usually takes quite awhile to notice any change?

I have the 'waterfall effect' about 2 hours after I take my pill, and then I'm okay. I don't mind it actually, I feel like I'm losing weight when I pee a lot (even though I'm not!)
