Don't let your beard limit your lifestyle -- there's no need. Get a good-quality men's-type rechargeable razor. I use a Philips Norelco which is great. If need be, I can put it in my purse and shave in a washroom during the day. Stores, gas stations etc. tend to have individual washrooms rather than stalls and the Philips doesn't make much noise.
My beard's almost as heavy as my husband's but nobody outside the family would ever guess from what they see of me in everyday life.
You say you've told only your mother. Not only DH but our kids know just what my beard is like -- they see me in the morning before I've shaved. Not much to choose in beard growth between DH and myself, except my beard is a lot thinner than his in the sideburns area. On the chin and moustache areas we're very comparable as far as beard growth is concerned. I've also told a few of our close male friends who sometimes stay overnight with us. We told them to make it easier for me, and they've been extremely nice about it. Curious, but interested in a nice sort of way. It certainly hasn't spoiled my relationship with them and I don't think that in point of fact my beard growth has a serious negative impact on my lifestyle at all.
