So I started Met in late July 2008, VERY SlOWLY, like ridiculous slow, 1/4 pill a day and got up to full dosage of 1700 MG in December 2008 and today I finally got AF today for the first time on my own, without Provera or Birth Control Pills. I forgot how much cramps suck, but I'm glad my body feels like it is working. I started to think I may be pregnant cause my breasts were super sensitive and sore, but I think it was just AF coming on. I've also lost 20 lbs!
Finally, all the stomach upset and daily bathroom issues are starting to seem worth it! I'll keep my fingers crossed for ovulation.
Figured this might help some newbies since I know my favorite question was always how long does it take to work!
I know how you feel. I just made a post very similar other day. It's weird how the little annoying things can make you feel whole again. Congrats and I wish you the best!
Yay for AF! I started met in february and after 2 weeks i got my af and i also ovulated! I think met is very good, just for some it may take longer to work. Good luck!

i started my period the third day of being on met at 500mg/day. surely it affects us all differently... but you may not have to wait longer than you think!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! It's amazing how we look forward to this painful, messy thing, huh? LOL.
I agree...this was one of my favorite questions when I first started Met too...so my story:
I started taking 1000mg of Met in July 2008(took about 4 weeks to get up the max). In Sept 2008 I realized I hadn't ever gotten another period (besides the original provera induced one) and called my dr. He sent me a new prescription for 2000mg. 3 days after I started taking the 2000mg dosage I got my period!! Have been having it monthly since then!!
*Woohoo*...it's amazing what the *magic* dosage will do for you!!

i know how you feel i started taking met on 3/20 and this past sat i had my first AF (full 28 day cycle). I get reactions from people wheni tell them i am excited that i started. they look at me like i am crazy, but they dont understand that when you dont have AF youdont feel like a complete woman. Now i just have to pray for ovulation.

congratulations to everyone who is having success with met.. i started met in January im currently on 1500mg but still no luck with AF just yet.. i am not giving up i go back to my endo in September for a 6 months review and if the dose still doesnt help i will ask to get upped to 2000mg. One thing i will say is that met is helping me very much in terms of weightloss i am losing much more now than i was able to lose while excersising and eating healthy by myself. I'm down about 10lbs so far

Hi! I'm new to this site and am so glad to find others to relate too!! I too have been taking Metformin (1000 Mg) since Oct 2008 to control insulin and help with pcos. I have lost 25 lbs since starting it and just went to doc today for u/s and no cysts!! I didn't know that they could just dissolve. Starting round 2 of clomid 100 mg friday and planning to do double iui if I ovulate. During first cycle of clomid 50mg, follicles grew but did not ovulate. Things are looking better this time around! Keeping my fingers crossed!
Hey cysters! I have been on Met for 8 days on day 5 AF came (still on), & I have already lost 7lbs so far which makes my total weight loss for the past 3 months 27lbs!!!! YAY still have a long way to go, but Metformin is awesome. Side-effects kick butt, but so does PCOS. Rather live with GI issues than live without ever having a baby.
