Angry My first post- very frustrated.

Not frustrated at the message board by the way. =)

I went to the dr last week Monday due to a 3 week long bout with severe, double me over, OMG I can't breath pelvic pain on my left side. I couldn't sleep cause it hurt so bad, I couldnt bend over, I was chewing tylonals and nothing helped. I had gotten butted by a buck goat and thought maybe I tore a muscle or had deep tissue bruising. Finally it was to the point that I was throwing up from the pain so drove to the Dr office.

She of course thought ectopic pregnancy, but I told her unless I'm carrying the Lord's child, it ain't that, and I know I haven't been good enough to be a holy vessel.

So she did a pelvic and said, well... I think it is a gyno problem. I want an ultrasound. Had that done the next day. The ultrasound was on my stomach and an internal one. OMG I have never had such pain in my life than with the internal ultrasound. She was having a hard time seeing my left ovary so she was pushing down on my stomach in that spot and then I started bleeding. She was like, "whoops" happens all the time. I was pretty upset and was crying from the pain of it. It was aweful. She gave me a pad for my panties to soak up the blood.

I got home (15 miles) and the pad had soaked through, my panties and jeans were soaked with blood. I took a shower and then started passing big clots and other weird stuff. My mom was freaking thinking I was having a miscarriage and never told her I was pregnant- at this point I kept saying NO I'm not pregnant I've never had sex!!!! Evidentally no one believes that there ARE 30 yr old virgins besides in movies and romance novels I guess.

So I called my doc and she says come back in. I unfold one of my nieces Pull Ups and put THAT in my jeans so I didn't leak. I got there and she did another exam and I was bleeding all over the place. She thought that I had a fibroid or something that got ruptured when she pressed down hard on my abdoman. She put me on 1600 MG Ibuprofen every 6 hours, and orthocyclin to get the blood to stop.

The gyno looked at my ultrasound that same day and said there was abnormalities so wanted a catscan. I had to drink barium tuesday night, then wednesday morning twice. I had the catscan wednesday morning. The gyno guy said he wanted to see me, so I had my appt yesterday.

He said that my left ovary had about 20 cysts, the biggest one was 2 cetimeters in diameter but most were 3-5 millimeters. My right one was normal. He said that he thought it was PCOS and that to keep taking BCP (the orthocyclin) and added in darvocet for the pain. Sent me home, said that I will have to deal with the pain for a few "months" as my body normalizes with the BCP. I was like.... NO WAY. I want to get spayed I told him if I was going to have to put up with this pain and bleeding for months more. My bottom is chapped really bad from the bleeding and contact with the maxipads now. I keep putting udder balm but that didn't work so I tried preperation H thinking it would shrink the inflamed tissue- which it did. That was amazing!

Soon as I get home, his office calls and says, well gee your endometrium is VERY thick and he wants to do an endometrial biopsy, your appt is on Friday. I was like WHAT??!!! and the lady said, well I am just a receptionist I can't answer your questions.

So, I had a recheck for my antidepressant meds with my family practice guy. I explained what is going on, and said that I don't want a biopsy. I would rather have a D and C and get rid of the lining, rather than bleed like a stuck pig, pass clots and weird stuff. (looked like calamari or weird blood vessel clusters) He said too that I'll just have to deal with the pain, but thought a D and C might help if it hurts because of the endometrium. My endometrium is 3.4 centimeters thick he said.

So he told the gyno guy what I said, and he said that was a good idea. They will biopsy the stuff they scoop out I guess.

His nurse was supposed to call me back today to set up an appointment, but THAT didn't happen.

I am so freaking frustrated that I cannot even begin to describe it. I am taking double doses of darvocet and it hurts very bad. I asked if I could just be spayed (ovariohysterectomy) and they said NO because I might someday want kids.

OMG. Ok, isn't it MY decision to bring kids into this world? I told them that if I decided to have a child, I would need to get married first. Considering I'm 30 yrs old, 300 lbs and never been on a date let alone anything else I don't forsee hat happening anytime soon. I told them, I'm not using those parts for anything, they are giving me nothing but trouble I don't mind, really! I'd rather adopt special needs kids anyway. My genetics aren't that great (I'm extremely nearsighted, have crooked teeth, overweight, have frizzy crazy hair etc) I don't think it would be wise to pass on my weirdo genes to a defenseless child.

Besides that, I have Chronic Lyme Syndrome and I dont want to take a chance that I would infect the baby in utero with this. Its finally starting to get under control but now it is flaring up due to the pain and stress.

So what can I do? Will a D and C make the pain stop? What can I do? I'm about ready to start getting liquered up at night and start doing recreational drugs to get the pain to stop. Are long term BCP the answer? To me in a way it is embarassing to go to the pharmacy to get them (I know, this is dumb) because I'm afraid they will think that I'm a um... promiscuous person. And sitting there babbling your medical history to a sales clerk isn't cool either. And I'm not saying that only promiscuous people take birth control pills... ug thats not sounding right either.

Anyway I'm off to try to get some sleep again tonght.

First all i want to send you a great big hug........I am sorry for your suffering and pain. The frustration with doctors is horrible. Mine is no where as bad as yours. But is very aggitating for them to think they know what you want. Just be firm on your decision if it is truely what you want. And sooner than later they will listen to you and do what you want. If not get a second opinion and see what that gyno has to say.......If you need someone to talk to I am here.........

Hugs,

Melanie

wow big hugs for you!! i have no advice i'm sorry but i do hope you get better soon i'm not so sure what sprayed is i got the feeling its a hysterectomy in which case a hysterectomy will not unfortunetley cure PCOS. nor will BCP's there is no cure for PCOS just relief from the symptoms which BCPs seem to be able to provide for some people. i wouldnt worry about the pharmacy staff they deal with this stuff on a daily basis and you dont have explain why you are buying BCPs. take care and pls keep us posted on what happens

Oh hun, I'm sorry you're in such pain. That sucks you're in pain and also having to go through all this w/ the docs. I know it's your decision about hysterectomy, but I would deeply advise against it. It is not a cure for pcos. And once you go through with it, here comes menopause. I think 30 is young to be going through that. BCP's could help w/ the symptoms, but not always. When you go back to the doc, see about Metformin. I was told by my doc that it should help w/ diminishing the cysts. And after about a month taking it, I've noticed the pain is not as often as when I was on just bcp. Also, a lot of women have had success with loosing weight from Met. It seams it's an overall wonderful med. Have you ever seen an Endocrinologist? Pcos is one thing they specialize in since it stems from the endocrine system. They can check your hormone levels and if they're abnormal help get them under control and start getting your symptoms under control at the same time. GL sweetie. Hope things start looking up and your pain goes away!

I understand what it is like going to doctor after doctor after doctor... it took them 9 years to tell me that I was PCOS... I did have a D&C done when I was 27 years old... It does not hurt any where as badly as to what your feeling right now. After it was done it just fealt like bad cramps... (on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the worst of all worst i would put it at a 2.5 maybe a 3) I would do the D&C to make the bleeding stop and to clean you out. Talk to your doctor about putting you on Metformin that's what i'm on and love it... ever since i started taking it i've had normal cycles and have dropped 20 + lbs. I also join my local area curves that has helped out in the exercise area and diet food area.... think about it before you decide you don't want children and think of the long term effects of not having your insides.... god bless and take care.....

First, welcome to the board, and a big hug to you. My heart goes out to you. Bless your heart for having to go through all of this. While reading your post, I am just thinking it is incredulous that the pain and the bleeding don't ellicit a more immediate response and solution. OMG!!!
Since I haven't gone through this, so, do they tell you when to expect to not bleed? How long do you take the pain meds? I mean, if you have a job, how are you supposed to work or do anything else while bleeding and either in major pain or on pain meds? I hope maybe you can have the D&C-hopefully that will help with your problems.
I really feel for you, and wish you the best. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
Take care,
beachlover

Thank you everyone for all your nice words of support. =)

Ok, the gyno nurse called me and told me the earliest that the doctor could do a D anc C would be May 31st- over a month away. I told her that was unacceptable, and if they couldn't figure out something else I'd find a different doctor.

She called back and said that the clinic has 2 other gyno doctors, and that another one may be able to do it sooner, but that I would have to have an appointment with her first so she could "get to know me" blah blah blah. Then she'd schedule the d and c IF she felt it was necessary. So as it stands I have an appointment for our little social on May 4th.

Right now I feel really crummy. I am a goat farmer, and spring is the busiest season. I'm in the middle of kidding season, milking, and all the other chores like planting, tilling ground etc. I am just so frustrated. The darvocet made me very dizzy feeling so I had to stop taking it. Now I'm taking 1600mg ibuprofen every 4 hours, and it cuts the pain a bit but I am sure that I'm doing damage to my kidneys at such high dosages.

It doesn't sound like the timing is very good with this, but one thing I was thinking is this-if you go to another doctor, do you think you would be able to get in to see them and be scheduled to have the D&C any sooner than if you stay where you are?
I hope you start feeling better and get the relief you need. I cannot imagine doing the work you are doing and having the pain you are having.

I just wanted to say I am sorry that you are going through this. I have no idea what it is like to go through any of that and I don't think I would be doing as good as you. I am a great big baby when I don't feel good!

Hi, well that is what my regular doctor thinks. See at the clinic, each gyno has 2 days each month that they have surgery priviledges at the same day surgery. The gyno that I saw has his days on the 17th *full* and an opening on the 31st.

The other doctor has 2 different surgery days, they are in between my doctor's. Soooo theoretically I could get in 2 weeks faster IF (and ONLY IF) the second doctor thinks that 3.4 cm endometrial lining is too much and a D and C is needed. How much is normal? That I don't know. Is this lining the source of the pain? If so why is it only on my left side? If it is the ovary causing the pain, what can they do besides me taking these BCP's every day for months to "see if it helps".

I'll call tomorrow and ask about Metformin. Honestly I know that a hysterectomy does not cure PCOS, but if it got rid of the pain I'd gladly do it in a heartbeat.
