I had my first visit with my naturopath today and am very happy with the recommendations she's made. First, she talked with me for an HOUR and really explored my health in general. She's treated quite a few women with PCOS so I'm pretty comfortable with the treatment she's suggesting.
I brought with me my latest blood panel and we talked about that too. She said that my thyroid levels were too high, so she suggested I start taking a Thyroid support supplement and we'll test again in 8 weeks. If no improvement, it's back to the MD for thyroid meds. I'm hoping the supplement will do the trick. I was pretty surprised that my MD didn't catch this last week during my physical.
At the end, she "prescribed:"
The Insulite Program - she said she starts all of her PCOS patients with this program and has had good results with every one of them. I placed my order today.
Chromium Picolinate - this is a formulation to help with sugar cravings. I got a formula that contains: cinnamon, fenugreek, oregano, cumin, coriander, rosemary, clove, allspice, and peppermin. It also has yeast, spinach, blueberry, turmeric, and ginger.
Thyroid Support
NO SUGAR! ACK! I've been on a binge for the last two weeks. I hope that my willpower is strong.
Focus on whole grain diet with lots of veges and some fruit.
I'll start the Chromium tonight with dinner and the Thyroid Support tomorrow with breakfast. She said that the Thyroid support could interfere with sleep, so only take it at breakfast and lunch.
I'm so happy with this that I'm positive about treating my PCOS for the first time in a long time. Wish me luck!
Nancy

Everyone is definitely different. Which is why consulting a naturopath is a great idea if you can. A custom designed plan is a great way to go. It sounds like you've found someone who is really going to be a big help. Congratualtions! Good luck with the sugar thing.

Does she have a financial relationship with the company? I notice she's in the same state as the company HQ.

UPDATE: It's been close to a week since my visit and I'm feeling really. good. I have a lot more energy, thanks to the Thyroid Support and the sugar cravings are slowly going away. I thought it would be a lot harder, especially since I have a TON of sugary things in my cupboard. The greatest side effect has been that I've lost 2.2 lbs. Without even trying!
The Insulite arrived yesterday and so far so good. I think the biggest challenge will be to remember to take all of the dosages at the right times. I've been doing fairly well with the other supplements, so I'm just adding more. I've ordered a pill minder to help with that, but what a chore finding one that will fit all of the pills.
