let me tell you exactly what has happened...
In June I was experiencing EXCRUTIATING pain in my stomach for about 2 weeks so i went to the doctors and he arranged an ultrasound scan for me which I had and I also had an internal scan... and then I heard nothing.
YESTERDAY I phoned my doctors surgery and asked about the results and the receptionist put the doctor on the phone.
He said my left ovary has cysts and my right ovary SEEMED fine but the images they got werent great but they did seem fine.
I said "well thats not what you want to hear when your trying for a baby"
He said " oh well what you gonna do?"
I said " Well how does it affect getting pregnant? what happens from here? is it going to cause me trouble?"
He said " ye it will make it a little harder to get pregnant but you can still get pregnant... what happens from here? nothing really and what trouble did you have in mind?"
I explained that my sister in law has the same condition and she had an operation 18 months ago to remove a cyst but it has come back during her pregnancy (she is 6 months) and after the pregnancy she is having her ovary removed....
He told me having the ovary removed would make it a lot harder to get pregnant which I thought was a no brainer. He didn't tell me about ANY form of medication AT all.... at that point he said "ok bye" and put the phone down. So I have been left in the dark. I have read on a lot of websites about the medications but none of them say whether they are available in the UK and how long you have to have been trying before they will put you on it.
My doctor is USELESS. I asked him for a blood pregnancy test before he arranged the scan and he hadn't even heard of them!!
SO now you know my full situation... tell me what to do... what to ask... I need someone to put my mind at rest
To be honest when you're in this situation I don't think anything anyone says will put your mind at rest until your pregnant.
You need to make an appointment with your doctor (or maybe another doctor) and sit down and discuss the condition and how it will impact on trying to conceive. I recommend reading lots on this board, find out information and go armed with it and your questions...only you know what questions you need answered.
If your periods are irregular or absent, I'd suggest your first port of call is to try and get prescribed metformin. If you are having periods regularly (with no more than a 35 day cycle) the chances are you're probably ovulating fine and it's a case of patience.
What I would say though is....DON'T PANIC!!!! There are SO many people here with PCOS who have had successful pregnancies - it's achievable.
My periods are roughly 3 months apart the thing is... I don't know about this condition so I don't know what I need to be asking him... I have an appointment at 10 oclock on thursday morning and I don't want him to make me look stupid again... back in july I hadnt had a period so I had done pregnancy tests with negative results but still no period so a few people recommended blood tests to see if i was pregnant or not... and when I asked him about he he laughed at me and said he had never heard of it... I am stuck though because he is the only doctor I can get to by myself as I can't drive
Like Paddy said ask him about Metformin and take it from there. Here is a link for information about Met print it out and take it with you on Thursday if nescessary

Hello there,
Firstly, I think you need to change your GP - are there any others in the practice? It seems he hasn't bothered to explain anything to you.
Secondly - there are two separate issues here - the pain you were getting in your stomach is unlikely to have had anything to do with PCOS, as the sort of "cysts" you get with PCOS aren't actually the sort of cysts people often get on their ovaries that are big and cause pain - these ones are actually follicles within the ovaries - essentially they are failed ovulations.
If does sound like you have PCOS symptoms, and you need to get referred to a gynae to talk about your options. Go back to your GP and ask for a referral, and when you get one, ask for a full range of blood tests (LH, FSH, testosterone, oestrogen, SHBG, etc) and also get your glucose tolerance tested. Then talk to your gynae about Metformin etc...
Does that make things a bit clearer?

Hi,
Just to say that if you are not falling pregnant there is a good chance u are not ovulating. Also please note it takes 2 people to make a baby so your other half needs to be checked also. I was not ovulating, have endometriosis, and hubby had issues also so in the end we had ICSI very like IVF but more avanced.
Anyway! I responded really well to clomid so if it is just an ovulation problem, then you might get pregnant soon all going to plan.
Only advise is try not to let it rule your life, enjoy life, and see what happens you never know what is round the corner.
Just a quick note to let you know I've been through a very similar situation with ovarian cysts. I also had an eptopic pregnancy and had to have a tube removed. I was told I had a very slim chance of getting pregnant BUT I have 2 beautiful daughters who bother were conceived just prior to me having ops on my ovaries ... surgery was cancelled as a result. Don't EVER give up and don't be surprised when your body surprises you.
