My grandfather passed away this morning. He has been very sick the last few weeks from lung cancer caused by asbestos. We knew his time was near, but I am sad it is so close to the holidays. While I know he is in a better place, it is so sad to lose a family member.

I am praying for him and for you and your whole family. How sad that asbestos caused this. Did he work in construction before asbestos was banned? Sorry if that's too personal a question. I shudder to think how prevalent that material once was...asbestos in the floors and walls and ceilings of houses and of my own elementary school when I was growing up! So many people exposed to it.

My heart goes out to you. I know you will cherish your memories of him and carry on his legacy of love.

Thanks for your prayers ladies. The visitation is tommorrow (Fri) and funeral Sat. I hate that it got dragged out for a week, but with the holidays, there wasn't much choice. So I have a few tough days in front of me.

Kathryn, my grandfather removed asbestos from buildings when he was in his 20's (so about 65 years ago!) long before we knew the dangers. It is sad that it can effect you many years later.

I will keep you and your family in my prayers. My uncle raised me with my mother and he died 10 years ago on Christmas - it can make the holdiays very difficult. Please know you are in my thoughts.
