My dad called last night to tell me my grandmother (his mom) had passed away in her sleep yesterday afternoon.
I love her and I miss her. She was my favorite grandma and probably favorite person on the world. I know she lived a long and happy life, and I know she's been sick so this is what she wanted, but I miss her. She was 98 so we knew she wouldn't be around forever, but it doesn't make it easier.
I am so sad that DH and I never got to give her any grandkids, and that my kids will never know her. She was the best! Her funerals later this week, and I'm really down. I just miss her.
Sorry to be a downer, just needed to cry.

I also found out today that my grandfather passed away last night. His funeral is also this week. We lived about 10 minutes from them and saw them frequently. My grandpa and I shared the same birthday! I'm sorry to hear about your loss, but know there is someone mourning with you

Yeah we're going to be going through pictures soon. I don't have many at my house..and stupid DH can't find the one's that we took last time we saw her (I'm annoyed with him right now because they are on his laptop) and my mom wants them for the funeral. He acts like I am bugging him when I ask, because I think he lost them and feels bad...doesn't have the heart to tell me...otherwise he's been incredible. He's doing anything/everything for me, even canceled his business trip that he was supposed to leave on this morning to make sure he was here with me.
She was my favorite grandma and the one I was closest too. Lots of weekends and summer vacations with her since she lived about 30 mins way. She babysat my brother and me all the time.
My dad was her only child (her miracle baby as she always called him...took her forever to conceive him...sounds familiar). So she only had my brother and I for grandkids and she would have done anything for us.
It was so hard seeing her in a nursing home these last few years. I know she wasn't happy anymore. I know she never got over her one true love my grandfather who passed away, way before I was even dreamed of. I know she's with him now and couldn't be happier, but I miss her.
My dad wants to make sure we celebrate her life. She planned out her funeral with every details, down to drinking martini's and toasting her. Those were her favorite drink.
Thanks to everyone for the wishes, it's nice to be able to just talk about her. I just feel so bad that I didn't get to have grandkids for her to know. My brother does have a son who's two. He won't remember her, but I am glad she got to love him too.

ShyChicagoGirl and Lisa, I am so sorry for both of your losses. It is so wonderful that you knew your grandmother and that you got to spend so much time with her--the beautiful thing is that those memories will live on in you forever.
I grew up with my grandmother (she lived with us) and, like yours, she passed when in her nineties and after a long, rich life. It was her time to go. Of course, it is still heart-breaking. I still think of her wisdom and sense of humour and miss her all the time. But I know I was blessed to have her in my life--just like you were.
