Angry My health insurance sucks!!

Okay, so I'm ranting here...my insurance won't cover ANY infertility treatments except for testing....

So, is there an affordable supplemental insurance anyone knows of that covers infertility??

Sorry about that - I live in NC and am an insurance agent. Many insurance companies only cover infertility for diagnostic reasons, not to fix it. We have BCBS of NC and they do cover infertility - which has been a big blessing! Call around to some of the individual health carriers in your area and ask them if they will cover the treatment as opposed to just finding out why you are infertile.

Good luck!

I checked with Anthem, which is the CO equivalent of BCBS and they said no...*sigh* SOMEONE out there has to!

My sister works in insurance and she said that she has never heard of any insurance that will cover this. She said that most will only cover about $2,000 toward diagnostics and that's it.

My insurance changes every year and I've never had one that covers any of it. Interesting that Erectile Dysfunction and Viagra are high priorities and always covered.

My guess is that the insurance companies get some kind of kick-back or incentive fromt the drug companies for covering these drugs.

Treatment for ED is tons cheaper than infertility treatments. Insurance companies couldn't pay for infertility treatments and make any money. Artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization cost thousands of dollars per try. I'm not being deliberately obtuse. I know that most folks just want them to pay for the drugs that stimulate ovulation. I don't understand why they have to lump it all together in one category.

I also think that they consider infertility treatments in the same category as cosmetic surgery. It is not necessary for a person to survive. Of course that doesn't explain why they pay for ED treatments. You can probably chalk that up to the fact that men are the head honchos in most businesses.

Angry it sucks

I just wrote a huge post and it got deleted!!! GRR. Anyway, most states suck at infertility coverage. With a few exceptions, MA covers it and it raises the premiums about $2 a month. Whoa, $2! That pales in comparison to what we pay for people's health complications from smoking, drinking, fast food, driving like idiots, drugs, and people abusing the healthcare system with false claims. I work in the ER and trust me, there are a lot of people that fall into these categories.

I live in GA and we suck. They won't even pay for brand-name birth control of any type, no Ring, no YAZ, no Loestrin24. They suck! They wouldn't even pay my husband's antibiotic Levaquin last year. And this is state insurance from govt job!! Yet this "Christian" "family values" state pays 100% for elective abortion. Makes me want to vomit.

And I won't even go into the maternity leave and pay policies in this nation...SUCKS!!! Worst industrialized maternity policies on the planet, and we get the least regular old vacation too! *sigh*

It really ticks me off that we pay a load of $$ for insurance and it does not cover ANYTHING for infertility. I have BCBS of La.

I'm also very upset about insurance coverage. I found that without it certain doctors won't even see you or let you make an appointment in TX. So I got health insurance on my own then went through the process of getting reffered to the dr. and then my insurance didn't cover it. LOL So not only did I waste my money 323 for health insurance a month for over a year now, I have to pay out right for the test and everything.

Luckly, I'm on TriCare and so far I haven't had to come out of pocket. However, my husband gets out of the military in Sept, so I am not looking forward to go back on regular insurance.

Fertility coverage also varies state to state. Luckily we live in IL and we have BCBS and have pretty good fertility coverage...but IL isn't the only state that has state mandates for fertility coverage.

Here's a breakdown of which states provide what http://www.fertilitylifelines.com/pa...atemandate.jsp
