I have Anthem of CA and they offer NO COVERAGE for fertility treatments at all.
I am trying to figure out what I am going to do.....What can I sell? Is going through my mind.

Oh the things we will do and go through to be mothers. -Terra

Default I Am So Upset!

I just found out yesterday that my insurance (BCBS of Alabama) won't cover ANY infertility either! It won't cover ANYTHING that has to do with infertility...not even a doctor's consultation on infertility! I am so sad! I thought that maybe I would have some hope if I couldn't get pregnant naturally but now all my hopes and dreams are shot down the drain! I don't have thousands of dollars to spend on infertility treatments! How are people like me supposed to ever get a baby?! Seriously? I am so upset! I am sorry for whining, I just really feel discouraged. : (

The only question I have is do you guys think that if I started Clomid they would label that under the "Infertile" category and charge me an arm and a leg? Couldn't it just be that I am wanting to see if my body will ovulate on it's own and pretend it's not for the sake of getting pregnant? What do you guys know on ovulation induction drugs? Is that considered under the "Infertility" category? Thanks for any response...I am needing any help I can get!~ Good luck to all of you! : )

You can get your RX for Clomid and pay out of pocket for it....Walmart and Sams Club has the RX for it and it is $4! They just added that as a $4 RX...so you can do it that way and not tip off your insurance. Also I am using Femara/letrozole and it is covered by insurance as a breast cancer drug so you can go through insurance with this. Mine pays for it, I pay a $20 copay for it. For me Femara works 1,000 times better than clomid, I am Oing right now on 5mg og it...I used clomid 12 cycles with no O at all. So this is working for me.

I hope this helps you some...I know it is expensive to try for a baby when nature needs a nudge...but if your OB will give you femara you dont any monitoring at all normally. I also know of a online reputable place to get the femara without RX and it is $1 a pill. So if you are interested email me and I will give you the info. Sophia.wannabe@yahoo.com Also I have tons of info on femara that I can share with ya as I have done tons of research on this subjest before using it. Hope you get your BFP soon-Terra

Yea, unfortunately I think that all insurance carriers will consider Clomid to be in the infertility category since it is an ovulation inducing drug. The good news is that Clomid is cheap and you can probably pay for it out of pocket and not break the bank.

Femara/Letrozole is not approved for that, so it may be covered. The bad thing about Femara is it is expensive. I have a high deductible and everything applies towards it (even Rx) and it costs me $158 for 15 pills of Femara at Target.

Femara is the only one that has worked for me. I took 6 months of Clomid with no luck. O'd on Femara the 2nd time and got pregnant twice (unfortunately both ended in m/c), but it worked!

I've never heard of supplemental for infertility; however, there are some programs that help reduce the cost of IVF and even provide a money-back guarantee if you don't deliver. I could look up the info, if you'd like. Another option would be to explain to your doctor that your insurance excludes coverage for infertility and would it be possible to bill office visits as treatment for PCOS (which is generally covered). I don't think this would be fraudulent, as you are receiving treatment for PCOS related symptoms.

I think that we need to start an insurance company JUST FOR women with Infertility! How nice would that be! I can feel your pain we have BCBS of TX through DH's work and they cover up to the diagnosis of anything. I wish I would have known about clomid being 4 bucks at walmart I spent 35 last month at HyVee. That is good to know for next month however, hopefully we wont need it . BCBS of TX is kinda crappy because they are a ARISA based insurance company that means that when I was in my car accident in November because it was someone elses fault they wanted their money back even though the guy had almost no coverage. I was lucky because they settled for 50 cents on the dollar so I only had to give them 6k of my 10k settlement . DH and I are saving up for invetro just in case nothing that we can actually afford can work. I hate to say it but it is sad all the money and emotions we have to go through to be a mother and there are some people that can get pg like that and do not want to be (sorry just had a friend tell me "omg I am freaking pregnant again I dont want another damn kid)...

I too just recently looked into my insurance coverage and became very upset that they covered elective abortion and ED but covered nothing relating to infertility treatment.

My friend has Etna and they cover fertility treatments and up to 3 tries with Invetro. I'm currently looking into my insurance through Blue Cross Blue Sheild, with no luck yet. LOL

I meant to add, can you get treated with ovarian drilling? My old RE said she bills that as a medical condition, and it may help you get pregnant.

Some employers have good benefits for it. If you have a company that has good benefits your good. Like Citigroup they have a $25,000 lifetime max for ivf through united health care .

I live in Ma and I have Tufts through my husbands work. They only cover testing but no treatments. So I also got Harvard Pilgrim just for me and they cover everything!! I have to pay $296/month for it, but that is nothing compared to the price of my u/s, labs, injections, and IUI's. Also it only has a $25 copay for IVF.
They only bad thing is when I m/c and needed a D&C they billed it as a day surgery and my copay was $500, but other than that, they are awesome for all fertility coverage!!
