Hi i'm in ireland .
I went in to my health store and got a few things the only thing is she gave prostasan saw palmetto capsules.
I was confused when it said it was to treat enlarged prostate.
I went back to my health store and she said it was fine.
I just want to be assured that it is alright to take?
Has anyone else taken it for pcos .
I've just started the pill diannette.

Hi

I took saw palmetto for months to try and tackle the testosterone that was causing my spots and hairiness. I'm afraid it didn't do much for me but I was many many stones overweight, so that may have blocked its effects.

Saw palmetto probably has similar effects to the cyproterone acetate in the dianette in that it combats the male hormones. I think it's really worth a try.

Nabbed this from Marilyn Glenville's site:

Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens)
Saw palmetto is a herb that is traditionally considered in light of its success in treating prostate problems caused by an imbalance of hormones (including excess testosterone). It is a small palm tree found in North America and the berries of the tree are used in tinctures or capsule form.

Research has shown that saw palmetto works as an anti-androgen, which can be very helpful given the high levels of testosterone in PCOS.
I would suggest that you add saw palmetto to your treatment plan if you have excess hair growth, or have been told you have high levels of androgens.

Hope this helps
Karen

Men with prostate problems are often given anti-androgens, like saw palmetto, for the condition.

It's a more common use than for PCOS so don't be surprised to see it on the label. What you need it to do for PCOS is the same as a man needs for an enlarged prostate... creeped me out at first too, but one must do what one must do.
