My history..never thought of how it all connects....

Ok..I was reading up on PCOS symptoms and stuff in the stickies. I have most symptoms some I dont.
I didnt used to have acne, but my skin is CRAZY NOW !
I have some strange hair growth.
I have dark patches.
I have skin tags.
I used to have really heavy, painful, and clotted periods.
I was on BCP from 16years till 18 years old. I stopped taking my BCP after my BF was killed in a car accident. I immedietly gained 40lbs. Went from 160 to 200 in 3 months. I always assumed it was from the shock of what happened. Now I am wondering if it was from stopping the BCP.
I dont have trouble TTC.
After giving birth to my Daughter I had 7 "normal" periods and then they stopped for 3 months. I was given a very quick diagnosis of PCOS with very little explanation. I was advised to take a pill to make me start. It worked. Three months later we decided to TTC. We got pregnant right away.
Now here I am and its the same pattern. 7 "normal" periods and now nothing for 2 months. I am in excruciating pain in my back and a Dull aching pain in my front where my ovaries are. More so on my left side.
When I was on BCP's my periods were lighter, and less painful. As well as normal and predictable. When I didnt take them my periods were either VERY HEAVY, or not there. I remember my mom thinking I was pregnant at 13 because I missed a period.
BCP's make me sick and I have HBP so I dont want to take them.
I dont know the point of this post..just have a lot going through my mind. I am going to try to get in to a different doctor to discuss all of this hopefully next week, I am trying to get in as a same day visit due to the pain I am having. My regualr appt wasnt scheduled for like 2 more weeks!!!!!! I cant be in pain that long.

The weight gain could also have been caused with the stress of BF in car accident- I think that stress is what triggered PCOS to flare with me.

Hi Sheila!

It is bizarre about the birth control, but that's exactly what happened to me. Stopped taking it in September of last year and gained like 25 lbs in one month! As of now the gain is up to 35 - 40. (YIKES)

You mentioned not having trouble TTC...but you mentioned irregular periods. How did that happen? I am thinking about TTC, but with the PCOS, I figured it would just take so long.

Sorry to hear about the pain, it has to be horrible! Hopefully you will be able to get in and see a dr about it.

My periods have been through different phases. When I first started from about 12-16 they were infrequent, and heavy. Then I went on BCP's and they regulated and lightened up.
After stopping bcp's they were very heavy but came about every 30-35 days.
When I got pregnant the first time I had missed a period and it was our "honeymoon" so I didnt think I would get pregnant but I did..I think it was random.
The second pregnancy was only a couple months after the doctor kick started my periods and when I decided to TTC I bought one of those ovulation predictor scopes that you spit on. I used that along with just observing my cervical mucous. We got pregnant right away.
This is the one thing that makes me wonder..."is it really PCOS" It makes me wonder if there are other women with PCOS that dont have trouble getting pregnant because I know that "infertility" Is a BIG issue with PCOS. Or, was it just "luck" (for lack of a better word) that I got pregnant both times so easily? I really dont know. I wish you the best in your TTC though.

PCOS and 'infertility' don't necessarily go hand in hand.

There are plenty of women who are able to get pregnant with pcos. Some don't even realize they have pcos until after they have children.

One of the reasons it's so linked with infertility is because many times this is when it's diagnosed (once a woman unsuccessfuly TTC's.)

If more women reported things (and more doctors paid attention to) things like menstrual irregularities, acne, hirsutism, AN, elevated cholesterol, PCOS would be diagnosed MUCH earlier, and not necessarily around ttc.

I gained weight after going off BCP's too, I went from about 140-190 in a year!
