Question Are my insides falling out? HUGE clots, Aygestin, Anemia and Premarin questions. :)

Good morning! I've had the most miserable week of my menstruating life and I'd like a little reassurance that my insides are not falling out via my crotch.

***A little background (I'm sorry. This is realllllllllly long)***

I start bleeding 4 weeks ago. I had not had a period in 10 or so weeks and it had been induced with Aygestin/Norethindrone. The current bleed started out mildly with a little spotting and then went to normal. After a couple weeks, I'm tired of bleeding and decide to go ahead and start my round of Aygestin (synthetic progesterone). This is usually what the doctor will tell me to do to stop a long period of bleeding. It does stop it but a "normal" bleed will come about 10 days afterwards.

Looking back, I realize that the Aygestin made my flow worse. I started to clot more and more each day and the flow was coming more heavily. On day 8 (last Wednesday), I started passing huge, grapefruit sized clots. Not all the time, but quite regularly. It progressively gets worse for the next two days. On Friday, the clots were constant and were so big they were pushing out my tampons. This was happened about every 15 minutes.

By this time, I'm fed up and call the doctor. Of course, with it being Friday, the office had closed at 11:45. lol I call the doctor on call and she calls in a prescription of Premarin to stop/slow down the bleeding. The instructions were to take one when I got them, one 6-8 hours later and then one when I got up the following morning. If things were at least back to normal, then don't take another until the next morning. If it was still horrible, take another 8 hours later and then another the following morning.

I took the two on Friday, one Saturday morning and not again until Sunday morning. Everything was pretty normal and we didn't discuss what to do past Sunday...so, I didn't take anymore.

Early monday morning, my lower abdomen started to cramp and my upper thighs started to ache. I laid down and tried to ignore it. Didn't work. My lower back started hurting and my (I'm sorry. No other way to describe it..) crotch began to feel as if it were being ripped into a million different directions. Truthfully, I just thought the Premarin had made me constipated. LOL There was just so much pressure in that entire area, from my pelvic area and back to my legs.

After a couple hours of this excruciating pain, praying and begging for the pain to stop, I felt this ginormous mass come out of my body. Thankfully, I was in the bathroom when it happened but, unfortuantely, I didn't get to see it. Yes, I looked! lol I wanted to see what had caused all this pain!

After this happened, there was still some discomfort but there wasn't the pain of before. I went back to bed and felt ok when I woke up. I didn't take Premarin at all on Monday. I started bleeding a little more Monday night and early Tuesday, so I called my OB-GYN to see what he wanted me to do. He said to continue to take the Premarin and come see him Monday.

Since the bleeding had started to get worse I followed the directions from Friday - one now, one later, one when I get up and then, if needed, one later that day. I was having to change tampons once every hour and a half yesterday (Wed.). Things seem to be slowing back down now.

***Ok. Now for the questions***

1. Could the Aygestin (Synthetic Progesterone) have caused me to clot so severely?

2. Does this sound like a miscarriage to you? The last HPT I took, a couple weeks before I started bleeding, was negative. Of course, with the jacked up hormones I have, that doesn't mean a whole lot.

3. I've read that the pain I felt was actually my cervix dilating to let the mass pass through. Could that be true? If so, was that similar to childbirth? I'm sure childbirth is much worse which is why I've instructed my husband to make sure I have drugs.

4. Premarin....I know it's usually for menopausal women to combat heat flashes but I've been getting them! Could this cause it or....

5. Could I have lost so much blood over the last month that I'm becoming anemic? How does that feel? I'm extremely weak and fatiqued. DH and I went to K-mart to pick up a few things and by the time we were finished and I got out to my car, I was out of breath and my heart was racing. Kinda freaked me out. lol

I guess that's all for now. You know....since I wrote a small book! I hope you made it all the way through.

Any ideas??

Thank you!

Hi,

I'm not a doctor by any means, and couldn't tell you for sure, but it sure sounds like one of the times I had a miscarriage.

After the large mass passed, did the bleeding get a lot better? When I had that MC after the large solid clot passed (I did not see anything in it that resembled a baby), the bleeding really slowed down a lot, and was soon gone.

You should probably tell your doctor what happened and see if there is any test he/she can do to be sure what happened.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

My cycle for July was pretty jacked up, heavy bleeding, tons of clotting. I did get anemic!! The symptoms that you are describing are exactly what I had and then some. Dizziness, fatigue, high bp, I actually told my husband that I felt like I was dying. Please go to your doctor and get your hemoglobin levels checked, he/she will probably prescribe some type of iron supplements for you, that's if you do not need a blood transfusion (thank god, I didn't need one, but I did have to go to the ER to make sure). Take care and hope you start feeling better soon.

I don't know what a miscarriage is like, but when I took my first round of lupron I had a horrible horrible period. My clots only got to the size of a softball, but OMG did they hurt when I would pass one and at times they were coming every 5 minutes, I got yelled at at work for going to the bathroom so much. I can't wear tampons, but I was wearing 2 overnight pads and was changing ever 20-30min. My dr put me on something to slow the bleeding...I can't remember the name, I just remember that Wal-Mart and Kroger did not carry it, so I ended up at CVS. I took that every 6 hours.

I guess it is possible that one of the meds caused it or maybe even a miscarriage, that is something you would have to find out from your doctor. Becoming anemic is very possible, I was so wore out when I was bleeding like that too. I had such a hard time going to work and getting from one room to another in my house took everything I had.

I agree with going to the doctor and seeing what they have to say and what to do.

I really hope you are feeling better!
