Hi ladies! I've been reading this board for a while, and now I have great news to share that I hope will help, as many of your stories have helped me!!
I recently got my free/total testosterone and DHT levels down (after ten years of trying!), and my doctor said I could start laser hair removal (for the fourth try).
I am going to a dermatologist to have it done, but he does not bill insurance companies because he only does cosmetic procedures. After the first visit, I submitted the first bill to AETNA, fully expecting a fight with them (as it is standard process with them). I got the EOB the other day saying it was applied to my deductible, and they will be paying 70%! Here is how I submitted it:
1. I went to a dermatologist
2. Procedure Code Identity: 17999 (I found this at www.acgme.org/acWebsite/downloads/oplog/080byAreaType.pdf)
3. Description of Service: laser hair removal
4. Diagnosis Code: 626.9 (PCOS code)
And even more fabulous news...I think its working...I hope I hope I hope :-)
I hope this helps!!!!
I'm taking byetta 5mcg, naturethroid, pcos blend, food based vitamins c and b, biotin, iodine, cortisol, adrenal response, and fish oil.
I think that it is worth a shot - if everyone who does laser for PCOS submits it to their insurance company, they'll have to pay attention whether they like it or not!
The insurance companies will cover spiro or vaniqua for the same problem...why not laser?
If you do laser and your insurance does not cover it, the cost may help you tax-wise.
Medical expenses are deductible if they are more than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income (last line on page 1 of form 1040). I don't know about anyone else, but I spend over $2,000 per year on supplements. Add laser, lab tests, doctor appointments, chiropractor visits, acupuncture, new glasses, etc. and you may hit that 7.5% mark - I know I do!
Thanks for the info...I will try to see if they will cover it for me too...
Since I'm in NYC I wonder if the rules will be different regarding coverage...I also have Aetna...you know how they start changing the rules as they go along from state to state...

Make sure your endo is testing free and total test as well as dhea-s and DHT. When I went to my consultation I brought my most recent labs and my dermatologist was glad to have that info (and impressed! lol).

I never knew this. I'll have to look into it more. My medical bills last year that weren't covered by the insurance were a lot, and I only make 25,000 a year. How do you "prove the expences"?

You have to make sure that you can itemize the expenses in case you are audited. Keep your doctor bills, insurance EOBs, receipts from supplement purchases, etc etc. It is a lot of paperwork to do but well worth it in the end. It may be worth your while to hire an accountant to make sure you do it correctly.
i have a full beard from PCOS and i recently went to American Laser centers to find out about getting it removed and since i have PCOS it nulls their two year warrenty. But what caught my eye was that fact that you have AETNA which so happens to be the innsurance company that i have. I was always told that laser hair removal was cosmetic and wasnt covered under insurance. This posting has givin me motivation to find out if i am also covered but i wonder if i can only go to a dermotologist. I was also told that everyone has different symptons but one that every doctor i went to about this was firm upon was the fertility issue. I was givin the surprise of my life and had a child with no difficulties and very much unplaned.
