I agree with Robin. When I was uninsured because my employer stopped paying our insurance premiums even though they were being deducted from our paychecks (long story) I talked to an insurance agent. They make their commission through the insurance company and not you. You are always going to pay more for individual coverage because through an employeer they are usually paying a portion of your monthly premium and they get discount rates depending on the amount of people and the average age of the employees at the time the policy is wrote. If you don't go to the doctor a lot and mainly want emergency insurance you don't pay a big monthly premium but have a high deductible. And you usually still get pretty good rx coverage. Everyone should at least have this coverage because unplanned medical bills will put a big dent on your checkbook.

I know this post is a little old but I wanted to respond. I was denied personal coverage by Kaiser & Blue Cross. Blue Cross wrote and said when you resolve your fertility issues you may reapply. I had gone to a clinic and asked about treatment. I put that clinic on my paper work - since I had a recent pap there/etc. Think I put PCOS down also (Kaiser is who had diagnosed me years earlier - but later had no record). They passed the info to the company. I have Kaiser through my work so there is nothing they can do now. Sadly - it's all about the $$$$.

Do you have it through an employer or did you apply for a individual plan? Some plans have that pre - excisting if I were you I would call them and ask what the deal is and maybe you can appeal it. Lots of luck

If you are a college/university graduate, you might want to try through your alumni association to see if they have available a group health benefit program. I got mine through my Alumni Association back in 2003.
