Hi everyone, I am new so I thought I would do an introduction but I don't see a place for it.
I approached my former Dr about 6 years ago with symptoms of PCOS (I was trying to concieve and had read about it on this site at that time), he ordered an ultrasound and told me I didn't have it.
Fast forward to 2006, though some unrelated medical issues I am now seeing an Internist from my local hospital, through discussing unrelated test results (or maybe related with an unkown link) she says, oh and by the way, your blood work shows you have a condition called PCOS, and she starts to tell me about it.
I literally burst into tears and told her how I had suspected this this many years before but had previously been told I didn't have it. She sent me for ultrasound to rule out any other undiagnosed concerns and yesterday she shared the ultrasound results with me.
The Dr who interpreted the results said "There are multiple (I forget how many) folicular growths (or whatever term they use) but they are not affecting the patient, and therefor this Dr says I do not have PCOS.
The Dr I have been seeing has basicly dismissed the negative claim and accepts that I do indeed have PCOS.
I had long given up the idea of more children (I have 1 son) so I have not been given a treatment plan at this point (we are also trying to solve some other health issues right now), but I really would like to get rid of the excess weight, and especially the added bonus of excess hair in all the wrong places.
I will begin to look through the boards for more info on treatments but I wanted to vent a bit and share this scenario with people who may actually understand how I have been feeling for the past 6 or more years.
I look forward to getting information and advice from women who have been there, and also maybe it's not too late and I will at some point be able to revisit the possibility of more children.
Oh sweetie, I am so sorry that it took so long for someone to finally realize whatyou have. I know how difficult it can all be, we all do. The symptoms (side effects) are the hardest to deal with. Maybe you will be different, but from what i can gather, the hair growth will never go away and the hairloss will never stop. As for the weight gain, there are wonderful programs out there to help you re-learn how to eat for your body to help it function better and to loose weight. And they actually work!! Have you been tested for Insulin Resistance yet? A lot of cyster's have it along with their PCOS, I do.
As for the pregancy, there are a ton of women out there with this awful syndrome who are able to have children. There is a board for ttc'ing, you chould check it out. Don't give up hope. I said this before and I've heard it said, Just take a deep breath, you can get through this and we are here to help.
If you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to pm me anytime!
Have you been tested for Insulin Resistance? You might want to go on Metformin as that helps many cysters with symptoms including weight gain. A lower carb/low grains diet also helps many cysters.
Check the Trying to Conceive and Pregnancy boards for info regarding getting pregnant. They have great info on meds and low progestorne issues (which can cause major pregnancy problems.)
