Hi everyone, I'm new here and really gald I have found more women like me. A little background...
I had fairly normal periods from 11-15 when I then was forced by an over-protective father to get the Norplant bc implant. During the next 5 years that it was active my periods decreased dramatically to where I was only bleeding once or twice a year. In my naievety I opted to get another Norplant whent he 5 years was up and continued to experience no cycle for another 5 years.
Once I had the last Norplant removed I was told it may take a few months for my cycle to return to normal, but it never did. I had gained weight on Norplant as well so I know that didn't help. After a very scary period that lasted 6 weeks I went to my doctor and was told my body just didn't know how to get back into the cycle and was put on bcp. This immediately regulated my cycle and I was told to stay on the bcp for a year before ttc.
I went off the bcp in April as my boyfriend and I have decided we want a family. I was hopeful that my cycle would be normal after the pills, but it wasn't. It was apparent by June that there was a problem. I went back to my doctor who told me in a nutshell that I was overreacting and that most couples don't conceive right away. She didn't even address my issue of not ovulating or mentruating. I left feeling depressed and more than a bit angry.
I switched doctors and saw a wonderful young woman last month, she listened to my history and immediately came up with PCOS. In order to confirm she wanted to rule out other possibilities so off to the lab I went for blood tests and an ultrasound...the results were classic PCOS.
Today I begin my treatment on metformin and from all I have read on it I am hopeful that this will be the push my body needs. I am now cautiously optimistic that we will be able to concieve a healthy baby in the near future.
I also have BPD (bi-polar disorder) and am off all meds for that due to TTC, anyone else out there dealing with this emotional roller coaster?
Thanks for the tips. I just took my first dose this morning along with a whole wheat bagel with a little margarine and a sugar-free fat-free chai latte. So far so good, not even a twinge of icky tummy...other than the little butterflies that have been flying around since I learned that this may be my answer to TTC!
Welcome to SC!
I love m Met - I am lucky and have no side effects!
There are a lot of people TTC on here and a thread dedicated to it. I have never been on that one, but I bet you can find some great information/support on that one as well! ~ Good luck with TTC ~

to SC. So far I've been lucky and had no side effects from Met, but I know it varies greatly person to person.
I know how exciting it can be to learn that this might be the answer to your infertility. We're hoping it's our answer or at least a big part of the puzzle.
