Default My Pregnant Cousin Stole My Baby Name

There are some things that just set me off these days. I've had two of those days this week. Friday it was because I found out that some horrible girl who does not deserve it is pregnant with her second child. Today, I found out that my cousin (who is due in January) has decided to name her child the ONLY name that my husband and I had agreed on for our future child. She didn't do it on purpose. She didn't know we wanted it (not that it would have mattered to her), but still. It really, deeply upset me. I started crying at my desk. Thank God it was lunch time and I could just leave. Tell me I'm not crazy for getting upset over that.

I'm sorry. The other day my husband and I were in Chilis and I saw a little girl with curly red hair with her young mother and it just made me sad and misty eyed since I've always wanted a little girl of my own with curly red hair! My dh was like "what is wrong?" and I just threw up my hands and shook my head. Just the hormones talking I guess. So frustrating sometimes though. I feel for you.

I had a similar experience years ago. This girl that I didn't really like had a girl and gave her the one name I loved to her. The worst part is that she knew I had that name for a baby girl and she didn't care. The lesson I learned was, don't share baby names unless you are already pregnant and far in your pregnancy. So, no, I don't think you are crazy. I know how you feel, especially when you have been ttc for so long and can't get pregnant and then all these people around you get pregnant and then to steal your future kids name is like the icing on the cake. (((hugs))) And I hope you get your BFP soon!!!

You're not crazy. TTC drives us all nuts. I agree that you should still keep the name if you like it.

I think you should keep the name too. my cousin is pregnant and if we both have boys we are naming them the same name. we arent upset about it. it was my dads name and its her husbands name.... and you know what? its cool... they will just be cousins with the same name, thats all

Thanks for making me feel normal, everyone. I try really hard not to have pity party days but sometimes I just have to. I think today is one of those days.

At least it wasn't in spite.

It's normal to be upset but don't let it consume you. Think about how wonderful it will be when you get to use the name!!!

she is your first cousin right? that makes her your child's second cousin, and her child your child's... 3ed? cousin. That's like me having the same name as you want to name your child. I know she stole your thunder, and if you can't imagine using that name now I am so sorry for you. My Best Friend did that to me. She is a freaking rabbit and when she popped her first child out she named her Christina.... I went home and cried. Your cousin did not do this on purpose but that does not mean it sucks any less. My heart goes out to you and I'm sure that when your baby comes he/she will be very happy with whatever name you give them.

Yes she is my first cousin. Even though our children would not see each other very much, our extended family is rather close and I'd be the crappy one for using the name since she used it first. She is several years younger than me and having a baby already, too. Just adds insult to injury.

*HUG!*

One day last winter, not long after DH & I started officially ttc, I fell in love with a certain boy name. I stumbled across it somewhere and I just knew it was the name I wanted to give our son (that, God willing, we will have eventually). My husband liked it too and it's not very common. Well you know how there's those people you used to know in real life but now you really only know them on facebook? One of those people of mine got pregnant like a month later and eventually gave birth to a son with our name. She had picked a different name and never announced the new one until she was home from the hospital and the baby was born and there were pics. So totally not expecting it, I clicked on a picture of a newborn with our name and it broke my heart. Over the last year I've watched this child grow through facebook while our ttc struggles have gotten nowhere. I HATE the name now. The little boy is adorable but I now cannot stand the name no matter where I hear it, it triggers bad feelings.
