Default My "recipe" seems to be working, for hair loss

Hi all,

I wanted to share what I've been doing for hair loss, because the shedding seems to have slowed considerably, recently.

200mg Spiro/ day
Yasmin
Saw palmetto 2x/ day
d-Pinitol
5000 mg biotin
Nioxin shampoo/ scalp treatment - wash hair every day
Alterna's leave-in spray for thinning hair (I think it's called "LIFE restore")
and I've been eating buckwheat for breakfast, which apparently is full of d-chiro-inositol!

I also have always used flax seed/ hemp oil, as well as multivitamin/ probiotic supplements, but those dont seem to have any bearing on the hair loss as I was on them when I started shedding.

So, hair's still thin, but shedding is much less than before!

Now, if only my acne would also start healing!!!

Caitlin

So happy that you found something that works for your hair loss!

Have you ever tried Pro-Active for the acne?

Im using pretty much the same meds as you and my shed is almost back to normal!! Yeah! However Im not taking Saw Palmetto as I heard it shouldnt be used with an ocp as it can interact with the estrogen in it. Do you know if this is true?? I'd like to start taking it if it isn't!!

I myself haven't had any negative interactions w/ the saw palmetto, and I told my endocrinologist that I was on it and he didn't say anything. I think there are conflicting reports out there about saw palmetto and BCP (like with most things) -- so, probably just listen to your own intuitive guidance on the subject!

I just started taking 1000mg/ metformin, and look forward to seeing how that will improve hair regrowth. My hair is still stable in terms of no more major hair loss, but it's still thinner than it used to be.

I've heard conflicting reports about that -- some say it doesn't negatively interact, some say it does. My endocrinologist seems to think it's not a problem. What does your intuition say?

Well Im just afraid it will interact with the estrogen in the ocp so I haven't taken it. Do you still shed some or has it stopped all together? I still maybe shed like 7 per day and wanted to add something else to try and stop it even further.

Oh I totally still shed! Like ~50 - 75 hairs a day. But that is how it always was for me; only in the past several months was I noticing clumps and clumps of hair coming out in the shower and the brush. Now it feels normal again. But wow, I wish it was 7 hairs a day!!!
