My scalp is ridiculously itchy!!! Its like no matter how much I wash my hair, the dandruff always comes back. I just can't stand it!!!! The scratching and flakes falling everywhere. Its horrible!! I've tried so many different shampoos but they don't seem to work either. I sooo need some advice myself.

but I've cured my greasy crusty danduffy scalp through the strangest method.
I've stopped using shampoo(that's right- I don't use shampoo anymore!). I wash my hair with only conditioner and scalp massage(this is critical to success) and after a shampoo withdrawal and disgusting hair for a couple of weeks, my hair and scalp are the cleanest and happiest they've ever been. I really was sceptical about this but I had nothing to lose (Suave Naturals conditioner is super cheap) and possibly relief to gain.
I haven't used shampoo for 6 months now and my scalp is no longer inflamed and red, no crusting or flaking and my hair is no longer oily. Before I went shampoo free, I could only go 1 day between washings and my hair was a greaseball that smelled. I tried an experiement to see how long it would take for my hair to become oily after co-wash and at day 9 (uhhuh- day 9) my hair wasn't oily but was dirty from dust and pollution etc. I probably could have gone longer but wanted clean hair again.
this explains the science behind the sulphate-free cleansing method.
I'm not quite sure I understand how the shampoo free method works. I read the article from the link you posted. I didn't understand it to talk about how to wash without shampoo, just to recommend hair products without certain chemicals in them. If you could explain more about washing without shampoo that'd be great. Also, any idea if these tips would work for people with straight hair?

My aunt was a hairdresser in southern CA for 15 years. I grew up with seabreeze on my head, she swears by it! It does help a lot but it also burns if you have any scratches on your head. You should be able to get it in the astrigent section of any store.
Try the sensitive skin version and it won't burn as bad but I do have to use SeaBreeze (or Wal-Marts generic version) every once in a while.

soooo i had this great stylist when i was living in CO...the climate there is very very dry and i never had any dandruff issues....so i move to NY where it is more humid and suddenly dandruff. while on a biz trip to CO, i'm desperate for a good cut so i book with my old gal and tell her about the dandruff. she says to use over the counter once a week and regular the rest of the time. and then she, a native new yorker, told me that there's two kinds of dandruff, one caused by dry scalp the other by dampness. i had the dampness kind. so it is possible to have oily hair and dandruff...excess moisture can also be the problem. i was getting so upset because i thought i was falling to pieces after our move. i now use head n shoulders once a week and really massage well. i typically wash my hair every other day.
i hope this helps
I find that my oily-dandruff episodes are more frequent if I wait more than 24hrs before washing my hair again.. say if I washed it one morning and instead of the next morning I waited until night.. when the oil sits on my head too long the dandruff seems to get worse for me... Also, to clear it up, I use Nizoral, or something with a LCD (liquid coal-tar distillate) and make sure to blow dry my hair every time.. this may not make any sense as you would think it would dry your scalp out more, but the blow drying seems to be the biggest help and when I do it, my hair stays less oily than when I let it air dry.
As many have suggested...Paul Mitchel makes a Tea Tree Oil Shampoo that works good, but I've found NIOXIN works better for me. It is also a brand that you will only be able to get at a salon...NIOXIN also makes this scalp therapy like three or four step treatment that I hear is great...I've just not tried it yet.
