Hey all, I'm a newbie here and thought I'd introduce myself - have been diagnosed with possible PCOS for a few years now but was only just referred to an endocrinologist recently. Previous symptoms included hirsutism, high cholesterol and being slightly overweight and my GP put me on Estelle (combined oral contraceptive) which I've been taking for a bit over a year and told me to go away and exercise a lot.....
Not sure how we measure testosterone over here in New Zealand compared to elsewhere in the world, but my blood tests over a year ago showed:
Bound testosterone - 3.5 (should be 0-2.5)
Free testosterone - 120 (should be 0-70)
Ultrasound scans: Showed up relatively normal
From recent bloodtests I had:
Bound testosterone - two results off one bloodtest - 5.5 and 7.2 (going up!!)
Free testosterone - 80 (gone down by a fair amount....)
Ultrasound scans: 12 cysts on at least one ovary - not enlarged (which the ultrasound scanner person was a bit miffed about....)
As they wanted clean/unaffected blood test results I was requested to cease the pill and a steroidal cream I had been using on a psoriasis-like condition on my legs. Five weeks into it, my bloodtests are now showing bound testosterone of 3.9....this is making me rather suspicious of the steroidal cream containing betamethasone I had been using. Needless to say I'll be rather irritated if all these PCOS-like symptoms have been caused by a repeat-prescription my GP should have taken me off after 3-4 months (I've been using the cream on a daily basis for about six years!) and it's created all these problems! Also a bit odd bound testosterone was shooting up while free testosterone was going down (while on the pill). Have second appointment with endocrinologist coming up April 3..... |

Points: 1,263.85 Bank: 9,267.98 Total Points: 10,531.83 | Arhgh. Feeling a bit cruddy lately and need somewhere to vent. After two visits to the specialist and a scan - they confirmed there are around 11 cysts on each ovary (though I read somewhere that around 7 could be standard??) and essentially the endocrinologist told me to 'keep on doing what i'm doing' but exercise more and eat healthier (which I've now paid $520 for a specialist to tell me what the GP had already done for $20)
Arhghgh! I CAN'T exercise more. I'm already doing 40-50 mins a day 7 days a week (I don't want to overdo things!), I'm practically on rabbit food - and I have been for ages. I've lost 4 kgs since the 29th but it's still not good enough for her
On top of that, my boyfriend and I split up after 10 months together as I 'wasn't attractive enough for him'. We'd already split up twice previously but ended up back together when he came back telling me how attractive I was. Now he's saying he 'doesn't want to speak to me for 6 months as he's too scared he'll want to get back together with me again because my personality is so great he can't help himself' (retard!)
Have finally finished a conjoint Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Business Studies (4 years education) and now I'm thinking early childhood/primary education might be a nicer course of action for a career (as working in IT is sucking my soul) which would be another 3 years of uni
And on top of that my mum's been in the hospital for an operation where there were complications (which are now clearing up) but still - *stress*
I semi-permanently want to cry at the moment I'm so frustrated with everything.

Talk to your dr about metformin, many of us take it to regulate blood sugars. If you are TTC, usually you start with clomid (pills), then injections, then IVF. Adoption is a great choice for many women as well. Good luck!
