I started Met about 2-3 wks ago. I started on 500mg of the IR kind. I would take it wth breakfast. I had a few bouts of diarreah, but nothing horrible. Then my dr upped me to 1000mg XR. I started taking it at night because I figured I would rather sleep through the stomach upset or at least be at home if I got the diarreah again. So I am now on like day 5 or 6 of the 1000mg at night dosage and I thankfully have no s/e. I am supposed to wait 2 weeks and then go up to 1500mg XR at night.
I have 2 questions. If I have no S/e are the meds working or do I need a higher dose? and Should I wait the 2 weeks or just go up to the 1500mg now since my body seems fine with the 1000mg?

I had a couple of days of mud-butt, but then started taking my met with yogurt and now have had NO side effects, except maybe it's a little harder to "go" if you know what I mean LOL...

I have also been lucky and experienced no s/s. My 1st week on Glumetza (1000 mg), my stomach felt a little "weird". Now on 1500 mg and felt great, hunger was down and actually lost weight! Now after being on prometrium 200 mg for only 4 days, feel like my energy is going down a little and hunger is coming back STRONG. Also a slight headache. GGRRRRRR | |

From 500mg-2000mg, my s/e were minor to none. I kept waiting for them and they never really showed up--I was like "is this it??" *lol*

For some reason a lot of ladies experience fewer s/e on the XR versus the regular Met.
I wouldn't press your luck and up the dose to 1500 mg until you talk to your dr about upping it sooner.

i no what u mean i started met 7days ago it started my period but i havent had any side effects at all ,i went to my doc and asked for a higher dose and he said this is very high i take one tablet of 850mg and i think its not enough,ive looked all over this site and all the sisters are taking much more so iam realy confused,i read that to get a good result u need 1000mg or more am going to call my doctor and ask him again.maybe u should to but its great u can take so much and not react to it from all the things i read about met i thought i would be realy ill 2  | |

I've really gotten lucky with metformin (the extended release). Within 3 weeks I went from 500mg to 1500mg. I take it at dinner, half way between the meal. I'm on my 1st refill and really haven't seen too much in the way of side effects, the only time my stomach gets grumbly is when I don't eat something with it. | |

I have been ill and stopped taking my Met for 2 weeks, am I ok to go straight back up to 1500mg or should I start on 500 mg for 1 week then up to 1000mg for another week then up to 1500mg?

I had very few side effects in the beginning for only a week or two. Now I have no problems. Everybody is different.

I’m currently on day 18 of Met went from 250mg for 10 days to 500mg for the next 10 days. By the end of the month I should be on 1000mg. So far I’ve felt really fine. Just a tiny bit nauseaous for the first ½ day when I’m going up but no mud butt or anything. But on the plus side my tummy has gone down a lot and I have loads of energy and feel really great. | |

I am new on met too .. only 500 1x/day - i take it in the evening per my Dr
I also started Byetta at the same time
My first day i had a slight case of the mudd butt (as someone so poetically put it LMAO!!) but since nothing major and if anything I am constipated (tmi) .. I think it may be related to the combo of byetta - which keeps things in your stomach longer???
My doc did not tell me anything about increasing - but I see her again in 3 weeks. Guessing then she'll do it if I am tollerable | |
