I just joined and I am so excited to hear from people that are going through the same things I am. It is so comforting to know you're not alone...I was also just wondering if anyone shares my story and symptoms. My problems started when i was 8 - 9 years old. That's when I started my menstrual cycle. I also (before that) when I was 6 years old had an abnormal fast growth spurt and had problems fainting and such. My menstrual cycle from the early age of 8 - 9 yrs was pretty normal up until I graduated highschool. I would say within a year afterwords I all together stopped having periods, started getting the very bothersome facial hair, weight gain, and all the other fun stuff we are all so familiar with. I have been diagnosed with PCOS (which by the way I had to do the research myself, and self diagnose) and told my dumb doctor what I thought the problem was. It was confirmed and I have been diagnosed for about 10 years now. I have just recently started on Metformin, which initially did make me really ill for about the first 3 - 4 days. But am actually excited to say I have recently started a menstrual cycle! Wow who would have ever thought I would be celebrating the day when I would have my period!! Anyways, I've really been enjoying reading others' stories that are so similar to my own. It gives me great comfort. I wouuld love to hear from you. Also I do want to have children also and I've been reading that with PCOS there's also higher statistics of mis-carriage. Has anyone heard this? This worries me a lot. Thanks for listening to me.
you may find your answer about pregnancy and those things in the mommies forum or pregnancys forums. But yes wome with pcos are high risk pregnancys becasuse of the complications that can happen. But it's a matter of making sure you have good drs and are very watch full. Alot of women have carryed full term babys.
if you feel the need feel free to pm me any time.

well i started puberty at around 9 or 10. Up until then i was solid...but skinny (you could see my ribs). i started piling on the pounds at an alarming rate and the dr. did absolutley nothing about it. now they say it's my fault i'm overweight. according to my gyn i've had this since puberty. if only they had diagnosed it and got me on treatment, i wouldn't be a size 24 (uk) at 17.

Well my story is not perticurlarly like yours but I was just diagnosed the end of last year. I also was skinny 5'5 120 lbs (when I was younger and when I met DH) now I am 185 lbs I have been this way for about 3 years. And I was on the pill so my period was pretty regular untill last year when DH and I decided we wanted to try to get pregnant and then after I stopped the pill my periods were non existent. So that is when I called the gyno and said my period is not coming and I'm not pregnant so what is wrong? And then he sent me to the Endo and then went through all the blood tests and ultrasounds and all that fun stuff and they found the cysts. So now I am on Metformin but the slow release because the regular Meformin made me sick. And I am doing pretty well on this Met.
And yes I am also worried about the complications that us woman with PCOS can have during pregnancy. I have read these on the internet about miscarrages and other sorts of complications.
Hope this helps in some sort of way...

Hi Im new to this. I was dx with pcos feb. 2002. I first suspected I had it July 2000. I recently thought I was pregnant but started my period 2 days ago. I don't think its normal though. Its unbelievably heavy and extremly painful. I don't think I should be going this heavy. Over half a box of tampons in 2 days doesn't seem normal to me. Anyone have advice? Should I go see a doctor?
