Post My Story

Hi, I am now 48, unknowing, I lived with PCOS all my life. Thinking I was a freak! Puberty hit and the periods were terrible, had skin flaps, frizzy hair, weight gain and the most worst part was the excess hair all over, including face. Constantly shaved my body and face. Dr.'s told me had to learn to live with it. So I lived with it until 2004, at that point my stomach was all swollen up. My friends finally confinced me to go to the Dr. CatScans, blood work, tests and tests. Finally was told I had PCOS, had a hysterectomy. I had a cyst/tumor on my ovary the size of a medium size nerf ball. PCOS is normally benign. Mine however was malignant and it had gone into my liver. I have been battling the cancer since 2004. My regrets are, that I wish I would have demanded more from the Dr.'s rather than just feeling like a freak and learning to live with it. If I had, I may not be in the condition I am.

Hey Sandy! I'm so sorry that you didn't discover this sooner. It's hard though. The only reason I started looking into it was because my older sister has it also. I also have excess hair all over and shave everywhere! I also thought for so long that I was a freak. That is why I'm so glad that I found this website. People can just relate with the effects of PCOS. I'm so sorry to hear about the cancer. If it is any comfort know that we are here if you need to talk and I'll keep you in my prayers!

Hi! I'e been drinking lots of water! I am doing 1800 calorie diet (I keep track on www.dailyplate.com which really helps!) I also work out almost everyday. Ugh. I always say I hate to workout, but I am always glad after I workout! On Mon, Wed, and Fri I do intervel training. 5 minute warm up, run 90 seconds, walk 60 seconds for a totat of 25 minutes. Then on the days that I don't do that training I walk for at least 30 minutes. I hope to keep adding the amount of time I run in the intervel training. I got the idea from Couch to 5K (which you can google) and they give you a sample. It was a little too much for me, so I'm adjusting it a little. I also have a goal of doing the Music City Marathon next year, so I try to keep that goal in mind when I'm trying to talk myself into working out! I seriously doubt I run the marathon, but I want to at least walk it! I have 6 hours to walk 13 miles! It will be hard, but worth it! Hang in there with the weight lose. It's hard, but you can do it!

My Dearest Sonyalea,
Thank You so much for such a prompt reply and for telling me what you're doing. Thanks a billion. I checked out the dailyplate, i havent explored it completely but looks like a great website. Will look more into it. Also i wanted to know, it says you've lost 14 lbs, so could i ask in how much time have you lost 14lbs? A week? A month? Any idea of how much time? It would be great for me to know. Thank You....

About 3 months. My scale didn't go down as fast as I wanted it too, and I was getting really frustrated, but I could tell that I was losing weight in my face. That's the first place I gain and the first place I lose. I like dailyplate b/c I am always happy to see those extra calories that I didn't eat. Plus, when I add in the workout/fitness and I see those calories it makes me feel like I'm doing something positive. And when you are trying to lose weight you need anything that will make you feel positive! : )
