Just wanted to let you guys know im in the same boat as you all...im hairy also, this is where i have hair - sideburns, top lip, under chin, back, bum, inside of my bum, belly, breasts....basically everywhere apart from the palms of my hands and inside of my arms and the bottom of my feet.
I remember when i was 10/11 and i looked in the mirror and seen the first hair, under my chin, im now 21 and its gradually over the years got worse and i get more and more depressed by it, ive not been able to wear my hair up in a ponytail for years, and i wish i could, i hate it when its a windy day and the windy blows my hair about n you can see my sideburns. =0(
Today was the last straw and i went to the docs, she knows all about my pcos etc and she spoke to me for a while, shes put me on dianette which is a bcp, but designed for us hairy pcos girls, it blocks the receptors in the body that the androgens usually work on, she has also given me Vaniqa cream which will help slow the growth of the hair, just rub on the problem areas, and should see results in 4-6 weeks, maybe more maybe less..and also she has prescribed spironolactone which will reduce the male pattern hair growth also.
And on top of that she has made a referral for me to have laser treatment on the hair on the face, though it could take months for me to get an appointment for this, but the main thing is i have been referred and i will get it free, the NHS will only pay for treatment for the face area, thats the main place that bothers me so im happy with that.
I just hope that one day that i can wear my hair back etc
I was trying for baby number 2 but this will now go on hold for a year or so, as ive been told under no circumstances can i get pregnant whilst on spironolactone as it has been documented to cause deformities with the male fetus penis, so will hold off for a year before trying, will try get the hair stuation sorted out first.
I'm also very hairy but on top of that, my scalp hair thinned dramitcally almost five years ago. THAT is the symptom that tore me apart but I am learning to deal with it now.
I have very hairy legs. My arms are also pretty hairy and I've noticed worsening nipple hair, yuck! I have a few stray hairs that grow on my neck too. I hope it doesn't get worse.
Are you on any meds for ttc? I managed to get pregnant twice, all be it the first was a missed miscarriage, but it still happened, i believe metformin was the key to me getting pregnant.
I would really like to go to a doc and ask about met....my insurance has been a problem. I have PPO and on top of paying a premium and copay, I got billed over $200 for two appointments! I got different insurance now but it only covers a yearly physical and emergencies.
Did met help you with your symptoms? Did the body hair reduce or did you experience weight loss? I am not overweight but I am not skinny anymore the way I used to be. I want to lose a few pounds, and have my skin all cleared up.
I also have excessive hair in my face. I talked to my doctor, but he didn't recommend anything, so I checked into laser treatment myself. I have been getting treatments for about a year now. I have tried everything from waxing to plucking. The laser hair removal treatment works better.

Met didnt help with my hair problem, it didnt reduce it or anything, and i didnt lose any weight on it, i didnt however give me a regular cycle and concieved both times on Metformin.

So youve found that laser treatment is working? What actually happens during laser? And do you need to let your hair grow in fully for each session?
I know exactly how you feel about the hair. I had laser hair removal on my face about 2 years ago and I remember how desperately I wanted to be able to throw my hair up without having anxiety. It's truely a blessing to have that back in my life...something I probably hadn't been able to do since I was 11! I'm sure things will gradually improve with your hair--the spironolactone will likely help things along even more. Good luck and keep us updated.
