Default This is my story

Well....I was just diagnosed with PCOS in January of 2002. I was diagnosed by my primary doctors Physician Assistant. Her name is Linda...and she is wonderful. She spent quality time with me and made me feel like a person instead of just a chart. I had been through many Doctors before that...they all said to lose weight and my body would go back to normal! Whatever! I have always had irregular periods since I first started at age 11. I went on the pill at age 16 and didnt get off of it until age 21. After I got off the pill...my periods stopped completely. I had to get shots to make me have one. My husband and I hadnt used protection since then...and I never have been pregnant. I am now 28. The infertility was the second sign that something was wrong. The first sign was the sudden weight gain. I was always thin...a size 3-5. Within about a year...I was up to a size 12. I hadnt changed my eating or daily routines...so I couldnt figure out why I was gaining. Then I started to get acne worse than when I was younger. All those years I though it was all just in my genes.....my mom had acne as a teen, most of my dads side of the family was over weight. SO...I thought all of my other problems were due to my weight gain. Then...I started to get hair on my body like a man...and some facial hair. I started losing the hair on my head...and was feeling depressed. But...I had alot going on in my life so I just thought is was stress. I had been dealing with it for a few years...then I just knew. Something was wrong. But...the Doctors wouldnt listen. Then....my mom was talking to a nurse about it at the Doctors office that I know go to..and she said..."sounds like pcos". Then...at work one day about a month later I read an article on PCOS in a magazine. I thought I was reading my story! So...I photo copied that article to take to my Doctors appointment. I had just got married so I was waiting for the insurance to kick in. So...when it did kick in I went to the doctor and saw Linda. That was the beginning to finally feeling like a weight had just been lifted off of my shoulders. I finally knew what was wrong! She put me on Metformin 1500 mg and Spironolactone 100 mg. Now...I am doing better physicallly and mentally. I am not taking the spironolactone right now because I am ttc...so I am on Clomid. My husband and I have been together for over 10 years and married for only 9 months though. We are really wanting a family. My husband is wonderful...he has been by my side through it all. My family has been great too. Also...finding this site and all of the friends I have made here has made it even better!
