Unhappy My story and doubtful living...

I am 29 yrs old and I am from Southern Asia. I was diagnosed in 2001 ( age 21). It was tough to find a good endo there and get to the root of my facial hair problem. My aunts also had facial hair and nobody ever mentioned anything.

Past:
I had no idea what PCOS is and I just followed my doctor. BCP, spironolactone 50mg or 100mg (1x). He suggested me to reduce weight and its the key. I just followed him. I was 140lbs (I am 5'2") and I reduced to 114lbs in 1 year. I worked hard but it was not so difficult at that time.
-- I used to run for 25 mins in the morning and had a very strict diet (vegiterian)

My facial hair reduced to hardy any and I never worried about anything...

I am here in US since 2003, I started going on and off the medicine and my situation is getting worse. I am not sure its age, my eating habits, life style or what! Now I know about PCOS but still I am unable to have control over it. And at this age I am more worried about getting pregnant than facial hair.

Current:
Last year in 2008, I went to an endo in California. I wanted to do all the tests all over again and see whats wrong NOW. He did all the tests and few more I never did before. I was diagnosed with IR, high cholestrol and borderline thyroid. I told him I am planning for a family in an year or two.

-- my new medicine: Metformin 500 (2x), Levoxyl 25, Spironolactone 100mg(1x).

He suggested to see if I get my periods on my own or not! (Earliar whenever out of BCP, I was not getting my periods). I started getting my periods on my own and my cholestrol, sugar everything is in control. Happy!

Now I moved to a new city. I hate it.. found a new doctor. In last 1 year, my cycles are irregular 20 to 45.. yes.. I am confused. this new doctor says, its OKAY because you are having once in one month. I am not sure if thats okay??? Is it???

He did thyroid test and says I can be off levoxyl. I am happy as I am taking one medicine less but I am not sure he did all the correct tests to check my thyroid

And I am told that I need to take Spironolactone till I am planning to be pregnant. I am soooo confused. btw, I am back to 140lbs.

We are planning to try for a baby later this year. I dont want to suddenly stop taking medicine and TTC. I want to be out of Spiro for 4-5 months and then TTC. As doctor told me Spiro is not good for baby.

So I have stopped taking Spiro since last month and I want to see if I can cope up with facial hair problem. I see more hair than before but I now worried because I am not having my cycles... Can anybody explain uses/effects of spiro.. If I wont have normal cycles without Sprio than how will I conceive. I thought Met is taking care of that...

Anyway, just waiting to see if I can get things better. I dont know how it feels to have regular cycles...

Hi, it sounds like you have been through alot! I know how you feel I am 5'2 and 142 lbs. I never weighed this much before, but between the PCOS and the meds. I think it may have contributed to my weight gain!
It sounds to me they need to try other meds to get you to ovulate. I was diagnosed in Aug. 08, but apparently I have had it for a very very long time!!! I concieved my son at 19 without trying! Now I have been ttc for about a year... they finally put me on clomid which made me ovulate but then they had to add hcg shot to make my body release the eggs! Now I am going on Monday for a 6 week u/s to see if my little bean is where it is suppose to be!
After all of this babbling I have done, I hope it helped to a little, or maybe just give you some hope! Good luck!
P.S. I forgot to mention when I didn't take the bc pills I never had a period on my own, they were about once a year! So don't give up, just get them to try something different!
