My story of PCOS and introduction Hi my name is Beth and I was diagnosed with PCOS way back in 1998. Actually, it seems so long ago that I'll try to remember as much as I can. My DH and I decided to try for a baby so I stopped taking the BCP in 1998 and I didn't even get a period that year and part of the next year. So Dr. induced a period and then started me on Clomid. I think we did 2 rounds of that and nothing. So, armed with the "newest" information about PCOS and IR I went to my Dr. begging for Metformin (10 years ago it wasn't nearly as accepted the relation between pcos and ir). I think just to get me out of his office he agreed to the Metformin. I seem to remember I had only gotten to 500mg once a day and hadn't gone much higher as I was getting really sick from it. My DH and I had sold our house and we hadn't taken possession of our new house yet so we thought it would be fun for him to live with his parents and me with mine for the 6 weeks in between houses and then we would go on "dates". Well, we only managed to do "it" once in that time (it's hard when you have to sneak around like teenagers LOL!) and lo and behold, PREGNANT! I had only been on the Met for a few weeks and had stopped the Clomid months before. Fast forward 5 months later and we get the news that it's twins! After delivery and breast feeding they put me back on the BCP and test my blood sugar and it's fine...so no more Met. Fast forward to today and I have 2 beautiful 8 year old boys.
Ok, now here's my latest story. About 6 months ago I started getting these "episodes" of sweating, disorientation, rapid heart rate, etc. so I go see the dr and he says it's a virus and will pass. About 2 months ago they start up again and I end up in the ER and they say it's a heart problem and give me beta blockers. The beta blockers make me very sick so end up in ER again and this time they say it's just anxiety and give me anxiety medication (which is REALLY weird because I'm an extremely relaxed and easy going person.). So I start looking into what else could be causing these episodes and lo and behold, I'm pretty sure it's hypoglycemia. It's all starting to make sense now as all these years they haven't been testing my blood sugar, just treating me with BCP's. Does anyone think it's possible that I still have IR and that it, for some reason, is starting to resurface now? It looks like IR and hypoglycemia have a connection???
Sorry for the very long story!
