I just wanted to post a positive note for a change of pace around here. I went off bcps last October and since then have had 7 - count them - 7 periods! I count that as big success.
I am NOT taking any other medications to help me with this. I feel that bcps have done a world of damage as far as PCOS is concerned and I didn't want to add to that with more medications.
I AM, however, doing the following:
1. Taking supplements - nothing "weird", just some vitamins, fish oil, etc. It took a while to find out what "fit" me and made me feel good.
2. Changing my diet - cutting down on processed, refined, sugary, artificial foods. I think about what I put in my body.
3. Exercising - I know it makes a difference. I did a major race this summer and ovulated the next day! I'm sure even a little bit a day makes a huge impact.
4. Being kind to my body - I've been treating my scoliosis with chiropractic work. I've released the strain in my lower back and pelvic region and I am sure this has helped as well (2 AFs in a row since doing this - ??!!).
I personally decided to take the natural route with PCOS and I know everyone feels different about this. Regardless of what you do, I think your own body has the best advice. Listen to what it's telling you. If something doesn't feel right, change it. You know your body better than anyone, including doctors. Being proactive in your health is so important.
Good Luck!

I think natural is a great way to go! Its absolutely amazing you have had so many natural periods, when you were diagnosed were they totally gone or just sporadic?

Thanks.
I was diagnosed about 3 years ago after being off the pill for a year and only having 1 period (I had another, but I think it was bcp "leftover"). When I was a teenager, I would have 4-5 a year. I was put on the pill after that and lived in ignorant bliss of my PCOS. After the doctor diagnosed me this time, she put me back on the pill (of course). I did a LOT of research and decided to get off again for good. I'm glad I did.
There is a ton of info out there for those who want to take the time and be proactive about their health. It does require lifestyle change and some work.
It is possible for everyone to have success!

Spearmint tea - 2-3 cups/day
Cinnamon in unsweetened soy milk
No grains, dairy, alcohol, sugar & salt
30 min. cardio & strength training every other day

1 week in: acne clearing up, chronic dandruff GONE!, and ovulated for the first time in I don't remember.
3. Exercising - I know it makes a difference. I did a major race this summer and ovulated the next day! I'm sure even a little bit a day makes a huge impact.
It absolutely does! It would be great if more cysters learned to get more physically active as a weapon against pcos, instead of just as a 'weight loss' tool...
Congrats to you and thanks for sharing! Thats pretty much what I have been doing too, and I noticed a difference within weeks. I lost 30 pounds so far, the dark patches on my neck and between my breasts are fading, and I have so much more energy!
