My TMI story about Met

I just started Metformin three days ago. I've been taking it at night with dinner. I noticed the next day....I was really gassy and had 5 bm's before 8 a.m! (sorry if tmi.) Then today, I wake up with a horrible stomach and backache and that lasted until about 1 p.m. Anyone else experience this when starting Met? I knew I could have GI problems...but I just figured gas.

How much does your doc have you on? Did you work up to that dose, or just start straight out at it? Regular Met, or Met ER? You might look at the other threads about Met and how much tummy trouble you can have, it's a VERY normal thing.

He has started me on 500mg. Once per day. And it's regular met.

You might try splitting it for a week, if it's giving you that much trouble. Then after your tummy gets used to it, try bringing it up to the full 500mg. Some people just have GI issues with regular Met, which is where you can ask for the Met ER, it's supposed to be easier on the GI system.
