Just as an aside about the sea sponges - I had a long lost cousin that was a prostitute (Heidi Fleiss style) and I asked her what they did when they had their periods and she said they used the sponge wedges you put make up on with. They have sex all day with those in! I'd personally be super paranoid!
my goodness i would have never thought of that.. i mean couldnt they just not do it or something.. i mean to each their own but i would seriously be scared with those in their and having sex..JMPO

I always wondered that myself. It's not like they're hurting for money. They could take a few days off. I just wondered how they got it out at the end of the day!
Not really an alternative product, but I've always hated pads AND tampons, because tampons never seemed to feel right, but I recently started using O.B. tampons and they're awesome compared to other tampon brands. I suggest anyone who doesn't like tampons due to the discomfort, the applicators pinching or getting stuck, etc. try them out :o)

I got a keeper ten plus years ago and i love it... I also sew my own reusable pads (flannelet with a raincoat backing) and i love them as well. I tend to prefer the pads. But to be honest it think it's been so long with out a period now that when i finally do get one I'm going to pamper my self and buy a diva cup to replace my aging keeper.

I myself am a Diva Cup user and I LOVE IT! I have been using it now for the about a year. It has worked wonders for me. First of all my periods are extremely heavy on Days 1,2 and 3. I still have to wear a pad on those days, but only have to change "everything" like 3-4 hours instead of the typical 1/2 hours depending on the "gushes".
Once you use it for a few months, you will know what days you will need to suffice with a pad if you are a heavy bleeder.
On the other days, I DONT even feel like I am on my period. I cannot tell you what a God send this thing has been for me! I can actually go out and about on my period and not have to worry about being close to a bathroom incase I have to change every hour.
The diva cup also eliminate some other things... 1. The morning "Gush" and 2. The mess that you get on inner thighs (well at least I get a mess there when I wear only pads"
It is very easy to change while in public rest rooms. I used to take wipes with me, but now I just take it out, empty clean up with dry toilet paper and reinsert. When I get home or somwhere with a sink (where Ill feel comfortable doing such a thing) Ill rinse and clean it!
For first time users it is a little tricky, but you will learn really fast. I reccommend this thing to anyone!
On my light days.... Your probably not suppose to.. but some times Ill go longer then 12 hours before changing (because I forget about it).
It has also helped with CRAMPS, I used to be popping Naproxen every 12 hours and could not live with out it while pmsing.. This cycle. I took one pill, yup I said one pill. That is all! I am so happy.
Ok I have said my peice, any question feel free to ask.

I have been using cloth pads for 1 1/2 years. I stumbled upon information about them when I was searching the internet for natural ways to help with yeast infections. I was having yeast infections every 4-6 weeks for 2-3 years. It got really old. Since starting using the cloth pads, I have only had one yeast infection. I now make and sell my pads!!!
Cloth has been a life saver for me!!!

What did you use before you started using cloth pads? I am curious because I have been getting yeast & BV infections every 4-6 weeks for the past 3 years and I never thought to associate the infections with tampons or pads. What kind of cloths do you use?

I used Always pads. I never used tampons.
What I did, is I took a Yeast infection pill (the name escapes me right now) before I officially switched so I did not transfer the yeast to my new pads.
I make my pads out of cotton...I am just so sensitive. The back is made of PUL, which is polyester fabric laminated on one side to provide a water proof barrier. Some people make pads with fleece on the back. They have wings and snap around your panties to hold them in place. They are easy to wash, and I never have to run to the store when I run out.
I will PM you with my website since I don't know what the SPAM policy is.

I know the thread is older, but I've tried the Instead cups out while being intimate, and it just wasn't right for us. I think I've got a shallow vagina, cause we kept 'bumping' it, and decided we'd rather just throw down an old towel instead.
This is really interesting. Im gonna try out the instead cup. If that works out good i think ill try the diva cup, it really interests me because im so afraid of Toxic shock syndrome. but af was so heavy this week that i needed a tampon and a pad together. heck ill try anything to make life easier.
I keep finding the best info on this site, im so glad i found it...

After reading this thread last week, I decided to give the Instead softcups a try. I had an extremely hard time getting them in and I never did get it in right. Is there a possibility that maybe my cervix and vaginal wall just aren't made like the typical woman's is? I got it in past the pubic bone, but it didn't want to stay there. It kept creeping back down.

I will have to give the Instead cups another try. I only tried them once and made such a mess. I use homemade cloth pads now and only use store bought disposable ones when I have to be away for a few hours. I love the cloth pads!!
I have read on another site that you can use rolled up baby socks for tampons!
