Arrow my update (after 2 months of alternative remedies)

Hi cysters,

Just wanted to update you on my PCOS after 2 months of healthy diet, regular exercise, acupuncture & reflexology (1 x week) and herbs.

Today is cd31 for me and I went to see my ob/gyn for an ultrasound scan ... as I was travelling to Europe with my dh I was not able to take my bbt and had no idea if I actually o'd or not ... anyway ... the scan showed the following:

- almost normal looking ovaries (in fact she said that she had never seen my ovaries in such a good condition before, I remember that I could always make out each and every single cyst on the monitor 'cause I really had that classic string of pearls ... today even my doc could not point out a single cyst ... that's how tiny or almost non-existant they were ... and in addition my ovaries are of normal size also *yippie*)

- my lining was very good, which I am happy about also as I usually never have a good lining (except when I got pg after Gonal-F injections)
I am just wondering why I have a good lining ... did I actually ovulate? ... unfortunately we could not tell from the scan ... but I doubt I did ..... I also don't believe that all of the sudden I would be estrogen-dominant ... I am a thin cyster and my estrogen levels are usually low ....

either way ... my health has improved

I have also noticed the following:

- my belly never gets bloated anymore
- my mood swings are gone
- my skin is so soft and has improved tremendously (I don't have acne, but nevertheless my skin was never in a great condition either)
- my hair growth has slowed down (I don't suffer from extreme hair growth, but I can still notice a change on my legs)

Now I just have to start o'ing and hopefully regular cycles will show up soon ~

Shaima

Hey-Congrats on the healthy ovaries!!! That's awsome. Now, of course your probably expecting this next question----what herbs do you take? I am a thin cyster also, but completely anovulatory and no af without provera. I was looking into the herb thing--as clomid never worked for me. I read a book last week that actually said that women with PCO should not take herbs to try to remedy themselves because more times than not, they make things worse. ARGH!!!! So, now I don't know what to do. Any information on how you got to this point of ovarian health would be much appreciated!!!!

I'm so jealous of you!!! Congratulations!!!

Like Shellfish, I'm also thin, annovulatory, and usually do not get AF without Provera. (Haven't seen AF since 1 December). I did 5 cycles of clomid that did not work.

I'm curious....what did you take and at what dose?? I have some herbs sitting in my medicine cabinet, but I am waiting for new bloodwork, u/s, and and abdominal CT scan.

I can't wait to see that bfp

Hi shellfish -
I just read your post about how you read that self medicating herbs may not be good for women with PCO. Do you remember where you read that? I'm only doing the herbal thing right now and want to be as educated as possible. Thanks for any info on that....

tracyW2 - thanks for your well-wishes ... I have been following some of your posts and I hope to see your BFP soon

shellfish and want2bpg - Clomid did not work for me either, but my gyn confirmed to me that I ovulate on my own - once in a while at least ... I have spent hours and hours and hours reading on the internet about how I can improve my health naturally and I recommend that everyone does their own research first before taking herbs .... anyway .... besides my diet, exercise, acupuncture and reflexology I take the following: TCM herbs (these were given to me by my acupuncturist specifically to shrink the cysts, unfortunately I don't know what's inside 'cause the labels are completely in Chinese), multivitamin, multimineral, Fish Oil (but I switched to Flaxseed Oil a couple of days ago), Vitex, Saw Palmetto, Dong Quai ... I also take Siberian Ginseng during work days to strengthen my adrenal glands .... I have been experimenting with Red Clover, Evening Primrose Oil and Black Cohosh but stopped taking them again .... I still need to figure out when and how to incorporate these herbs in order to be able to benefit from them .....
As for the dosages, I always follow the recommendations on the labels ...
I continue to read a lot on herbs and natural healing 'cause I want to make sure that I am doing the right thing ..... but I guess only time will tell ....
for now I am happy about my healthy ovaries, but I do know that I am still not ovulating - yet ...

All the best ~

Shaima

Shaima,

Congratulations on your success with the herbs and lifestyle changes. You mentioned eating a healthier diet and I was wondering if your are low-carbing?

I am so happy for you that you have had such a great turn around with regard to your cysts, etc and I am keeping my fingers crossed that you will soon be ovulating normally soon too!

Well done for doing so much research and taking control of your health issues - you are an inspiration for many cysters here!

Good luck for the future.

Cool

Nikki ~ thanks for the well-wishes ~ ... as far as my diet is concerned, I basically follow what I have learned from reading the "PCOS Diet Book" ... I stay away from the simple carbs and sugars, and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables; my main meal always consists of either fresh fish or chicken (rarely meat); I also drink between 2 - 3 litres of water throughout the day ...

kristal ~ congratulations on your health improvement through diet! Way to go!

carolinej ~ I keep on following your pregnancy and am really happy for you that everything is going smoothly ~ I will send you a pm to tell you more about dh's and my plans ...

oh yeah, there is just one more thing I want to add to this post ...

Hippocrates said: " Let your medicine be your food and your food, medicine."

Whenever I read it, I feel enouraged, motivated and inspired ~
