Default My weight

Hi everyone,

Im feeling really down at the moment. Ever since I went on the pill (Dianette) I immediately put on a stone weight and I can't seem to lose it and I gradually keep putting on more. I have been on it nearly two years.

I eat healthy and do exercise but nothing seems to help. I have had a full body MOT and apart from PCOS im perfectly healthy and have perfect cholesterol, blood pressure etc.

I suppose it all got on top of me when I was shopping for jeans and nothing fits anymore and I just broke down in tears right there in the shop. It’s so depressing.

I really want to come off the pill so I can lose all the weight I put on but if I do all my symptoms will come back including the severe pain which I can't cope with, and I like the contraceptive properties of the pill so me and my boyfriend don't have to use condoms.

Has anyone had any experience with other brands of pill or injections etc and not had the side effect of weight gain.

I have tried bringing up the subject with the doctor and nurse when I go for my pill reviews but they don't seem to want to do anything about it, maybe because I am not overweight but I still would like to be back at my original weight.

Any helpful information would be great im really desperate.

I'm so sorry (((HUGS)))

I was on Ortho-tri-cyclen and had the same problem. I kept gaining weight and dispite strict diet/exercise, I couldn't get it off. I finally got off the pill and I finally started seeing results from diet and exercise (although it still took me awhile to get the weight off). When I needed to go back on the pill again, I was put on Yasmin, and not only did I not gain weight, I actually lost a bit. I'm back on it again now (I've been off for the past 2.5 years to have my babies and I couldn't take it while breast-feeding), and have already lost a few pounds.

I've had to get insistent with some dr's. I wouldn't let them gloss over the issue or ignore me. Perhaps being firm with them that this isn't working for you would help?

I hope you're able to get it sorted out soon.

Schick,
I totally understand what you're going through. If you're unhappy, I think you should consult another doctor who knows how to treat PCOS better. We all know that weight gain that is particularly difficult to lose is one of the symptoms of this. We also know that there are other associated difficulties (high blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, etc.) can build up over time that can contribute to other, more "dangerous" diseases.

With this in mind, only you can be your best advocate. Talk to your doctor about the entire syndrome, rather than just the weight gain. When my nurse practitioner said that the Yasmin was good for me, I decided that that wasn't enough. I want better health, so I started working more closely with my GP and a naturopath.

It actually makes a lot of sense. When you're on bcps, your hormones are in balance, which means that if you have IR, insulin is being processed correctly so that you're not gaining weight.

this is actually a very logic and good argument to present to your doc. it seems that this logic conclusion slips from their brains when they say:''weight gain can be normal when taking bcp.''

schick, def get an another opinion. i would and will if it happens to me.

Yasmin helped me lose weight as well. Within the first month of taking I lost 12 pounds. My doctor said ortho-tri was causing me to retain water. I honestly believe that because not only did I gain but I felt puffy in my hands/feet/face...that went away with Yasmin.

It is worth mentioning (insisting on) next visit! Good luck!
