Default The Mysterious Lutrepatch

Here's my quickie story: been trying to get pregnant for over year now, I've seen 3 fertility specialists. A friend of mine told me about an ad she heard about for women with infertility. I go in for my tests and find out I'm PCOS.....no idea why I wasn't diagnosed before when I've had atleast 3 ultrasounds! So I start Lutrepatch next week and I've been trying to find out as much about it online as I can and for some reason the information seems to be somewhat illusive. I know it's been discussed briefly on SoulCysters but then the thread disappears to a "buddy group" which I can't seem to find or get info about. I also googled info and hear about tons of women starting the process but no results?!?! I find links to blogs that take me nowhere.....it's so strange!!! Haha, I'm beginning to think conspiracy theory - maybe the government is covering something up!!!

I guess my question is: is there anyone out there who's actually been successful with this or is it just a myth or rumor?!?!

We took down the group because one of the women was harassed by her doctor for talking about and posting picture's about her lutrepatch study. We don't want to get into trouble with our own study so we have been talking directly. But so far I haven't found a person who has gotten pregnant on the study.

Yeah, it stinks. We deleted the buddy group, because they were "lurking" on the internet and found her talking and posting pictures. To make matters totally worst, they were really rude to her - the nurses and the doc! Not cool! So we took it down and we all feel better about it!

I think they just started the study in February of this year, so there's not much info on it yet. They probably haven't published the findings because they haven't concluded it.

I start, probably, in the next couples of weeks!

That's TERRIBLE!! Well I guess I don't blame you! It sounds like some doctors are more stringent about this study than others. My dr. told me they couldn't tell me anything about the progress or how my body is reacting to the patch & drug but she said if my ultrasounds are taking some time then it probably means something is happening. If they are fast then there's not much going on. They also said I can ask all the questions I want and they'll answer the one's they can. I guess they just don't want us backing out if we're on the placebo but that seems pretty lame when we're going to be trying to figure out if we're are or aren't on the placebo anyway. Plus they are paying us!! I just don't want to get my hopes up but I'd like to know if it's actually worked for anyone. I've heard 60% success?? My study advisor said that they are having good results with the women that start their period immediately after starting the Provera and the women that don't start after the Provera the results aren't "as" good. I've never taken Provera so I don't know either way.

It seems silly for them to not let us talk about this drug. I'm not sure how they think they are going to completely prevent that!! I'm just so darn anxious to start a family. It doesn't help that my best friend who's been trying since March just found out she's going to be a Mommy!! I'm really praying we'll get to go through this together.

I don't know what we're allowed to say... I don't know anything yet. I haven't officially started, so who knows?! But I'm too scared to ask any questions about "talking" to my RE, because I'm afraid I'll raise a red flag.

That's so weird because I haven't been given the impression that I'm not allowed to talk about this!! I feel like I'm some rebel rule breaker!! Hahahaa!! Well until someone tells me to pipe-down I guess I'll keep asking questions and hoping for some answers. I don't want to hurt the integrity of the study but it's also my body and I should be allowed to find out what I'm doing to it.

Maybe we're not hearing from the women that were successful b/c they are too busy picking out baby names, planning baby showers, baby rooms and reading What to Expect When You're Expecting!!!???

I have to have an HSG on monday and then wait 3-4 weeks to start the provera. From what you said I want to make sure I wait as long as possible to start the provera so my lining is nice and thick so I can "bleed" right away.

I didn't think about that. I started my cycle naturally last Friday, a week ago, and they were going to start me on the Provera next week. I had my Hystosono on Thurs and everything looked good. Hopefully they wouldn't start me on the Provera if I didn't have anything to shed?!?! What do you think?? Have you had an HSG before? I had the saline HSG and it felt like a biopsy to me.....NOT FUN!!

I hope our kids know all the things we are going through to get 'em!!!

I haven't had an hsg before and I don't know what kind.
I don't think it hurts to wait 1 more week....its your body.
I took provera to start my period for my hsg and I only waited 2 weeks from my last cycle and I had a period but it was only two days and then 1 week later I get my real period, go figure. I can still have the hsg as long as I'm not actively bleeding, but spotting is okay.

Ok, I have to ask, and I'll understand if those of you doing this don't know. But what IS the Lutrepatch???? I've googled it, and tried to find out what exactly it is or how its supposed to work, but I don't know if I'm just not looking in the right place or what...Thanks!

Here is the link about the study. They are no longer accepting patients, in fact I'm the last one admitted into the study in my office. Basically what it is is a study showing the effectiveness of the "patch" compared to injections. You use the patch for 21 days along with 5 days of clomid. The patch is just like it sounds...its a patch sorta like a nicotine patch except it has a small battery pack attached to it, and once every 90 minutes you get a small tingly feeling as the patch gives you the medication. The medication is GNRH which is mostly used in ivf treatments (at least that part is what the nurse told me).

I'm on day 9 on the patch and it's going well so far! I'm one of the last allowed into the study also. How is is going for you?? I had an extremely interesting appointment on Tuesday which was only Day 9 of my cycle. I've found a few people online that were also on the study but none of them had any luck with it. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I don't want to be hopeless either. It's such a mental struggle with myself!!! Haha! Any symptoms or anything? I'd love to actually have a conversation with someone else that is going through it!

I was accepted to that study initially, and then rejected cause my testosterone was too high

I did get a $50 check from them, though. I just wanted to wish those of you who did get in luck and crossing my fingers for your BFPs!
