Default Naija (Nigierian) Cysters...

I'm starting this thread for all the Nigerian women or women in a relationship with a Nigerian man who are having problems conceiving or keeping a pregnancy due to PCOS. I myself am a African-American woman who has been married to a Nigerian man for 2 years. As we all know, building a family is important to the Nigerian community. So far we have suffered some miscarriages and now we have been trying to conceive again for 7 months. I just began Metformin last month and I have stopped taking any other meds that are fertility because it was creating a lot of internal stress for me and giving me serious mood swings. So right now I am trying on Metformin 1500mg alone until December.

My husband is very supportive, however I know that for him having a child is everything. His family members always call and say, "God will give you all a child." The pressure from the family may not sound hard in that tone, but when that is something they say to you each and every time they call, you can tell it is on all of their minds. Not to mention one of his cousins back in Nigeria... his wife has had several miscarriages (more than 5). His cousin's sisters are suggesting that he divorce the wife and find a new wife and they are willing to find a wife for him. This is what a lot of women in Nigeria go through. It is sad and I feel for them.

I'm not nigerian nor is my spouse, but I wanted to offer you support and tell you not to give up. I have had 3 miscarriages back to back and then 4-5 years of nothing. Have you had RPL (repeat pregnancy loss) testing done? I found out that my miscarriages are due to a clotting disorder. I lost all of them before 8 weeks. I'm now 28 weeks 4 days pregnant and this is the furthest that i've ever gotten. I am on met 2250, lovenox (blood thinner) 80 mgs 2x per day and 100 mgs of aspirin 1x per day.

I hope that you will press your doctor for the RPL testing. Anyway, as someone who has been through many losses, you can PM me if you'd like to talk.

Good Luck.

Thanks for you post. My doctor did prescribe me Lovenox 40mg twice per day. I have not become pregnant as of yet however. So my Lovenox is just waiting.

I do pray the next pregnancy sticks!

Thanks again for your support.
