Default nail problems with diabetes

hello everyone. my mom has diabetes that she takes actos for. her finger and toe nails are very dry and brittle. the other day when i clipped her toe nails they were cracking into pieces. today she saw her dr and she said to take a multivatimin. does anyone know if those foot creams and such that can be purchased otc for diabetic skin care will help with her nail problems? thanks

They couldn't hurt....she should be putting something on her feet regularly anyway as it's a trouble spot. I use Flexitol and it's wonderful....anything else I've tried doesn't seem to be any better than the Avon foot creams...which I also use because Flexitol is just plain expensive....so I alternate.

A multivitamin won't hurt anything and could make a big difference. I think it's Vit. E that is a big help with hair and nails? Maybe check on suppliments of that?

I would recommend you checking with her doctor about this. Vitamin E is known for increasing heart problems. My Endo told me to avoid it like the plague. he put me on fish oil. You may want to make an appt with a piodriatist (spelled wrong), a foot doctor, and have her feet checked out. They would be able to recommend what to use. If her diabeties is bad, she needs to be seeing one anyway for regular check ups. Good luck
