That is a good question and one that I have wondered myself. I am going to copy this post to the adoption fourm and see if we can get you some more input to help you.
I would like to know too so I will be following this closely.

I don't think that therapy will hinder your chances for adoption. I had professional counseling (albeit only one appt, but still I sought the help of a professional) after my miscarriage and have been on and off antidepressants since then. I was up front with my caseworker about this and she didn't have a problem with it. I think if you are also upfront about seeking helping then it shouldn't matter. I would think that if the agency found out after the fact that you were getting counselling they might not be happy about it. Just my two cents....
Best of luck to you. I hope the counselling helps you! I think you have taken a tremendous step in helping yourself by admitting that you need some outside help to get thru this. That takes alot of bravery to admit there's a problem. (((HUGS)))

i agree, you will usually be asked by the social worker how you have dealt with infertility/health issues. They want to know that you are willing to seek help when you need it. i really dont see it as being a strike against you.
btw, they cannot acess any records that a therapist may have on you.
good luck, and i hope things turn to your favor
I was in therapy for depression for 2 years. On meds for 3. Hospitalized twice (about 7 years ago) for suicidal ideation. I didn't have any problem with my homestudy. I was honest with them about the entire thing and the only thing they asked for was a letter from my therapist which had to state either that I no longer required therapy or that my depression was controlled by medications. If you are doing international adoption, the requirements may vary by country.

Hi, I just wanted to give you some encouragement. I had dealt with alot of depression, and my DH some anxiety. When we brought this up to the caseworker, we were told we needed a letter from the dr's we had seen to determine that we were "under control". After that was settled, she then told us we needed Psych evaluations on each of us due to both of us having prior problems.
Due to the cost of the Psych eval, we havent gone any further with the homestudy until we can afford it. We learned later that going thru the county was more difficult than we realized, and are going to go thru a private agency that deals with foster/adopt.
Good luck to you, and dont be discouraged. We all get depressed after TTC for so long. You are expected to go thru a mourning period according to RESOLVE. Just be honest with the caseworker involved and dont try to hide anything.
Good Luck!
