Default natural progesterone

Does anyone take natural progesterone? It is supposed to help with sleep. When should it kick in? I was told to lay off the Ambien and I am.

I went on oral progesterone (prometrium) for three weeks after I had some cysts/faulty ovary removed. I remember sleeping fine, but it was nothing that dramatic for me as I am tired by 11pm when I turn in. What I didn't like about the prometrium is that my breasts were out of control. By this I mean they bloated and I couldn't fit into my bras properly. I would probably have stayed on each month, but I didn't care for the side effects.

To my knowledge, it takes a bit longer for natural stuff to work. When did you start sleeping fine? How many drops did you take?

Prometrium is a a softgel capsule, by prescription only. I was on 400 mg a day (a high dose I've been told) in order to suppress ovulation.

THIS IS INSANE. 2 nights using 5 drops and I'm not sleepy.

I feel tempted to use Ambien so I can sleep but the doc says I'm not supposed to?

Jan there are other remedies for insomnia, so keep trying til you find one that works. Home remedies include drinking milk (warm or cold), eating some turkey or swiss or cheddar cheese, taking a warm bath, putting lavender scent in your room, avoiding bright lights (and tv/computer) the hour before bed, turning on white noise like a quiet fan, and wearing warm socks. The socks thing seems weird but research has shown that the body is more willing to drop off to sleep once the feet are warm. If you need more than home remedies, you can try old-style antihistamines like benadryl or chlortrimeton but that won't fix the problem for the long term so discuss with your doctor. If the problem is that you need to re-establish a set bedtime, I've heard melatonin which you can get off the shelf is good for that, but I've never used it and you'd need to learn how much and when to take it. Good luck!

Thanks LaBigGirl, but I took 10 drops last night and I did get to sleep. I do use white noise, but if I sleep with sox, I wake up some point needing to take them off.
