Default natural progesterone cream and depression

Has anyone used Natural Progesterone Cream for PCOS? Has it helped with depression? I am a 26 year old woman who suffers from depression and anxiety. I am currently taking Effexor. About 4 years ago I was placed on Ortho-Tricyclen to regulate my periods. It helped with my periods and depression but the androgenic qualites of the pill caused my hair to thin out. I have not been on any other birth control since then and cannot afford to have a full work up by an endocrinologist. Based on the research I've done I've found that I have almost all of the symptoms of PCOS. I'm interested in dealing with the problem naturally and Natural Progesterone seems to be the way to go. Any success stories out there?

Using the cream helped me feel happier, but it actually stopped helping after about 2 years not in happiness but period wise, so I was put on Diane-25 and I have really noticed a difference.

Yes, I know that Natural Progesterone is an anti-depressant (see the various books about it) and the cream certainly helped me. It made me less depressed and less aggressive, the latter was especially a problem for me. I can only recommend it.
Don't know if it will be strong enough for you, though, if you have been on anti-depressants. You can only try it for a few months and see.

Good luck!

Question

Hey, this isn't really about depression, but I have a question about Natural Progesterone Cream. Does it cause you to O or just bleed (like Provera)? Do you buy it over the counter? How much does it cost?

Progesterone cream actually just helps to replenish the progesterone your body already makes. It balances out the estrogen a bit. It can get you cycles back in cync, but only if you are not balanced to begin with. You can buy it OTC, but purchase a good brand. If I remember, it is around $20 a bottle and you use a very small amount, about the size of a pea, once or twice a day, but go off of it during your period. I didn't notice a lot out of it, but I have a friend that swears by it. You might try a search for it. I posted several brands that were recommended by Dr. Lee who is an expert on it. Lendi

My periods are regular (every 28 days) so I have never tried it...interesting though

It makes sense... PCOS causes an overabundance of testosterone in women... and estrogen, or estrogen-like hormones, counteract that. An overabundance of testosterone in a woman will most definitely cause depression. Common sense says so, because that body is in a state of hormonal dis-ease. Balancing with progesterone cream can't hurt... I have tried it before, and did get some relief. But now I'm supplementing with herbs... but it's not quite enough, even though I feel 80% better, and have been considering it myself. I was taking Prozac, but the stuff is so costly, and besides, I start not feeling "right" after a while of taking that crap. So I quit and replaced with herbs that have estrogen-like constituents. Good, quality progesterone can be found in most health food stores, and it costs me about $26.00. (Way cheaper than the $50.00 I was putting out for Prozac). The kind I buy is Pro-Gest, I forget the company, but it has a guaranteed amount of true progesterone. It is one of the brands recommended by Dr. Lee. Do NOT get Wild Yam cream... it does NOT contain progesterone, but rather a precursor to progesterone that the human body cannot utilize.
