Default Natural Remedies for Hirsutism & PCOS In General

hi all,

i am interested in the natural approach for pcos. my main symptom is hirsutism. though i am of average weight, i must admit that it is because i watch what i eat. when i do gain weight, i notice that is is centered around the tummy. i also think that i may be developing thyroid problems as i've discovered a lump in my throat.

i would really appreciate any alternative remedies that you could recommend. i read a lot about saw palmetto. are there any others that would target the cause of pcos which for now is believe to be insulin resistance?

i read some women are taking evening primrose. what is that for? or dong quai? also what are chysanthenums used for?

thanks,
bandanna

hi kat,

thanks for replying!

*************

hi all,

for those of you who switched to the alternative route from conventional medicine, please share your experiences.

reading aldactone is a steroid-based hormone prompted me to re-think my medication of choice. as i do plan to take this medication for life, i am not prepared to take the risk of developing androgenic side effects such as deepening of my voice and more pronounced hirustism as listed in the material that i read. i would appreciate any opinion that you may have regarding aldactone. based on the experiences of women in the other forum, it seems like no one has encountered this side effect yet. but i'm just weary that i may become the rare statistic.

i understand that there are other conventional medications such as flutamide, diane 35 and finasteride for hirsutism. the alternative equivalent is saw palmetto. in terms of effectiveness and side effects, how do they compare to one another?

as natural medicine is unregulated, is there a way to determine if the medication that i am buying is "good" or "bad"?

i also read somewhere that pcos symptoms may be triggered or aggravated by stress. i must admit that my job can be quite stressful. are there any alternative medications, herbal drinks, oils etc. that you could recommend to take? i think that if i can control the stress level, then it will help alleviate the other symptoms as well. i have been quite diligent with low carbing so far.

also, i am interested in hearing about what chrysanthenums can do?

thank you very much for your replies!

Regarding stress control...

My symptoms always flare up when my stress levels get out of control...I don't normally 'feel' stressed out, but the return of my symptoms is a big clue...

When I was losing weight...I actively practiced stress reduction methods and it made a big difference...

Biofeedback is one option...
