Default Natural remedies and pregnancy

Hi Ladies --

I'm brand new here and have a question. First off, I'm so impressed with all the info here and a little overwhelmed too

Secondly, my question is regarding the herbs (paeonia lactiflora, gymnema sylvestre, tribulus terrestris, vitex agnus, and caulophyllum thalictroides). Are they safe during pregnancy? I'm not pregnant currently and really want to try these, but we're going to ttc next month.

I apologize if this question has been asked probably numerous times before. If someone could just point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it!!!

Thanks in advance,
Andrea

I can only answer about the Vitex. Many cysters use it to help regulate their cycles. Others use it to help with ovulation. Maybe some of the other cysters will come in and be of more help.

Hi there. I am TTC and taking a blend of herbs including Vitex, Wild Yam, SARSAPARILLA, Red Raspberry and a few others. This is the first full month i'm taking them and I was told to stop after ovulation is confirmed.

Good luck!

Thanks for replying. It sounds like this might not be the best time for me to try experimenting with herbs. At least, that's what my instinct says. I guess I'm just so frustrated. I've struggled with hirsustism for a long time. My androgen levels are the high side of normal, but I guess it's enough to cause wonky hairs to grow where they shouldn't. My instinct also says to go off of red meat with all the hormones they pump into the beef these days. That's a safe thing I'll try for now. Anyone else tried that?

Thanks so much!

Actually I have cut out all red meat. Only once a month do I allow myself a lil bit of pork. Other then that it is all seafood or poultry. I am actually feeling healthier. But I have also started using exercise to help control my PCOS. It seems to be helping so far.

I've never really eat red meat (maybe once or twice a month) so I can't be a very good judge of if it did anything to help, but I have been eating a lot more leafy greens and high fiber foods and lost 10 lbs!

They say diet and exercise can sometimes help regulate your cycles as well.

You really have to experiment to see what works for you. Alot of herbs are contraindicated in pgy. I wouldn't take tribulus at all (ok for your DH). It can give you a false FSH rise (happened to me) and raise your testosterone.

I had cut out all red meat after being on hyponidd (which lowered my blood sugar from high), ended up hypoglycemic, figured out I was missing the carnitine (which is high in red meat). So keep in mind red meat is the biggest source of carnitine, which when deficient can cause insulin resistance in itself.
