Question natural sleeping aids?

okay, heere's the thing: i am a chronic insomniac. here it is at 650am and i am still awake, havent slept all night.

i have tried melatonin and it didnt work.

i have tried ambien and though i slept good with that, i had bad side effects and had to stop taking it.

i am currently trying neurontin and it is not working.

anyone have some advice? i need something i can take, preferably over the counter or "natural."

thanks!

Have you tried a hypnosis cd?
I used to have a quit smoking cd that didn't help me quit smoking but it sure relaxed me and helped me get to sleep.

I take calcium about 20 minutes before going to bed that seems to help me relax and I have a cd of rain falling that plays all night long, I do self hypnosis now since I lost my old cd. If I am really stressed sometimes I have a glass of port before going to bed.

My insomnia is a lot better now, though I do have an occasional bad night maybe once a month or less.

Good luck maybe somebody else will have a great idea.

Sleepy time tea with valerian works wonderfully. I'm not a big tea fan but can stomach it! Good luck!

valerian, lavender, calcium, black cohosh can all help sleep. Meditation can help as well.

Oh you poor thing. I've had insomnia off and on and it's horrible. I turn on a small fan and face it towards the wall when I go to bed. The sound is soothing and it drowns out other noises that would otherwise wake me up, like the air conditioning going on or noisy neighbors. You can also use a humidifier. That's actually really helped me sleep in the past years.

Also if you're stressed try yoga at your local gym. It's amazing!

Catnip is a herbal tea that is given to babies with colic to sooth and relax them... it doesn't put you to sleep but it can keep you sleep once you get there....
