Question natural thyroid support?

im into herbal/natural remedies and was wondering if there was a natural/herbal remedy for supporting the thyroid. i havent been diagnosed with hypothyroid but i know that pcos can increase the likelihood of it. i read about the symptoms (all of which i cant remember right now) but i know that a burning sensation in the muscles is one and also a weird sensation in my neck where the thyroid is located. i think headaches is one also. so anyway if anyone could suggest something id really appreciate that...thanx in advance.

Actually, I'm not sure that the connection is that PCOS increases the liklihood, but that a higher percentage of PCOS patients have thyroid problems. I think the jury is still out on the connection, as some sources claim there is none. I have wondered if there are simply more PCOS women getting the dx, as their endocrine health is being more closely monitored than that of the average women.

Who knows?

In any case, if you are experience hypo symptoms, have you been thoroughly tested (not just TSH)? I mean, if you happen to be suffering, it would seem that the natural remedies available OTC may not give you the relief that is necessary.

I take kelp powder for mine. I'm not 100% sure that it is what I should be doing, but kelp is a sea vegetable that is eaten as a major food source in other parts of the world without hurting people. The reason that I think it gives the thyroid a boost is that I took it many years ago, thinking that I had subclinical hypothyroid. I took it for six months and had five periods during that time (absolutely unheard of for me!). Since I didn't know about PCOS at the time, I just thought my amennorhea was from low thyroid and would be easy to fix whenever I might want kids. Well, not so. Since then, my other hormone problems have gotten bad enough that I didn't have cycles on kelp alone. Metformin was my miracle this time, and I've recently added kelp to see if it can shorten my cycle and send me a great big healthy egg.
Good luck to you,
Sheri
