Default naturally thin or thin because of diet/exercise?

Hi girls,

I am 5'5" and 130 pounds, so I am not overweight. However I used to be 5'5" and 157 pounds, which was overweight. I can hardly explain what has made me lose the weight...I think it is a number of things:

1. I got a lot less stressed out, because I graduated from college.
2. I met an awesome guy and married him, which adds some stability (and happiness) to my life.
3. I stopped eating junk food (much bigger temptation when you are staying up all night to study for exams!)
4. I cut out partially hydrogenated oil and high fructose corn syrup.
5. I started taking 1500mg of met (up from 500) and 150mg of spiro per day.

I don't know whether I would be considered a naturally thin cyster, or more like a "normal" (overweight) cyster who has lost weight by making changes. The weird thing is that I hardly have to try to maintain my weight, it just stays this way. But I think I am more insulin resistant now than I was when I was overweight, because now sometimes 1500mg of met doesn't do for me what 500 used to do (keep me from fainting).

What do you guys think about this?

Hannah

I was slightly overweight (10 lbs) and lost it from diet changes (the nutritionist doesn't like to call it a diet but lifestyle changes...ha!). So just a change in how you eat would make sense why you would lose any extra weight. I've heard of ppl who take out oil and corn syrup and lose weight just from that. I think why the thin cycters is important is because since weight seems to be an issue in PCOS...those who are normal weight or even underweight have different issues and questions. So I figure...if you are not overweight...when you qualify as thin...but that's just my opinion. If you don't have to do much to maintain your weight and you are eating healthy...I'd consider that weight normal then. I don't know much about the meds so I don't know what to think about that. I'm new to PCOS so don't quite understand the IR and all of that either...

I think if you don't need to try and lose weight then you are a thin cyster i'm 5'2 and about 110-115 pounds, thats with eating junk and doing minimum excercise!!! I am very lucky in that respect, but i do have chronic pelvic pain, bad skin and hairiness!!!!
I only take 1000mg of metformin as my dr said as i'm not overweight that is the max dose i can take, it might be that your on to high a dose??!!! I tried spiro but it made me puke!!!!

I think 2000 mg of met has been the standard dose for most PCOS recently. I've been up as far as 2850 mg at one time! (not to say 1000 won't work, but even many thin cysters take higher doses)

I'd say that I am naturally thin, yet my lifestyle also helps to maintain it. I've never been overweight, but I do exercise and was very athletic in high school. I don't watch what i eat exactly, but I know that I don't really over eat either.

I'm definitely naturally thin. I eat a ton and am not terribly active.
When I am active, however, I am pretty athletic and get into shape quickly...

I am thin now b/c I have to work at it. After a lifetime of total skin and bones I am having to really watch my weight and work hard at not being overweight.

::Excuse me I have to wipe off the girl scout cookie from my mouth::

My diet sucks. I live and breath kids all day long. What they like to eat I eat b/c I don't want to cook two meals. We eat healthy (organic foods and made from scratch baked goods from whole wheat grains) just too much healthy carbs and the fact I can't say "no" to homemade ice cream in the summer or girl scout cookies in the spring or second servings at Thanksgiving or Christmas.

I just bought a book called Magic foods by Readers Digest - it's awesome and it will change the way we eat.
