Nausea at 500mg, none at 1000mg but at 1500mg it's back w/ a vengence - normal?
I am newly DX with PCOS and started taking Met a few weeks ago. My Dr has had me slowly increase from 500, to 1000 and now 1500mg. I was a little nauseous for the first few days at 500, felt fine when I increased to 1000, but started with 1500 yesterday and had just awful bouts of nausea today. Has anyone else experienced this? I kind of thought that once I was tolerating it ok it would be smooth sailing.
Also, did anyone else get carb/sugar cravings on Met? I thought my carb/sugar cravings would decrease, but they seem to be worse! One more question maybe this is all in my head, but I could swear the nausea is worse when I eat sugar - could it be related?
Whew! Lots of questions, I know -
Thanks,
MG

1) Side effects definetly increase with the dosage amount. People fine on 500 or 1000 tend to have more troubles than on the lower dosage. Side effects seem for the most part, to be directly proportional. Definetly normal.
2) My cravings got better over time, but they get worse at certain times of the month even now. For some it's when AF is coming, for me, it's when i ovulate. It's definetly normal to got hrough periods of craving more carbs...Met helps, but we aren't infallible.
3) Sugar/carbs definetly make side effects worse. The insulin spike that results from eating larger amounts of these, do make most people more ill. That's why low carbing is such a good idea on met. Not only does it help the side effects, but it helps the drug lower your hormones faster.
Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for your reply! This is all new to me and it's hard to know what's "normal", so it's great to be able to talk to people who experiencing many of the same things.
Blessings,
MG
